Hi,
I am planting my winter squash seeds right now. I am about to plant the Spaghetti Squash seeds again, but they look exactly like pumpkin seeds??? I forget what they looked like last year... Can you please let me know if they should look like pumpkin seeds? I want to order new ones asap if these aren't right. I'm even feeling a bit stressed out because I have a documented time line on when I want each seed type to be planted, so if this is wrong, it will throw it all off for me.
Thanks.
NEED help fast please
I have seeds of other squash that look pretty much like pumpkin seeds to me... and I have some little pumpkin seeds that you'd swear were summer squash seeds if you didn't know where they came from. Hopefully somebody who has Spaghetti Squash seeds in their stash will be able to reassure you with better knowledge... but I don't see any reason to think that these seeds aren't as labeled.
You can sorta see a seed in this photo that FarmerDill submitted to PF, http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/65854/
HTH! If you didn't have "need help fast" in your subject title, I'd have stayed quiet and let somebody more knowledgable come along... :-)
The variations in squash and pumpkin seeds (after all they are basicly the same critter) are mostly in size of seed. The big ones usually have bigger seeds than small ones. Almost impossible to identify by seed.
LOL *smacks forehead* Right! When in doubt, look at the latin names! Both spaghetti squash and pumpkins are C. pepo -- same species, so of course seeds would look very similar!
good detective work , critterologist.
Thanks Farmerdill and Critter. I haven't seen you around Farmerdill so it was nice to hear from you around again. Even though you probably have been around and it's just me ha ha.
Thank you for responding Jill, I kept looking for an answer and saw all the views and was having a hard time being patient about this most likely "non" issue. Excellent reminders to use PF and also about C. Pepo. I felt kind of silly when I read that part because I remembered it was a C. Pepo then DOH!!!!!!!
Sometimes it's hard to tell the seeds apart. Last year I went to a mom & pop feed and supply where they still sell bulk seeds in bins. I bought what I thought were cucumber seeds...........that grew cute little pumpkins. Evidently they had put the wrong seeds into the cucumber seed bin. Go figure.
