Large pots

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Does anyone have an interesting source for large pots. 5 gallon pots are a fortune in garden centers, and when you need about 50 or more -- it's a killer!

I've restorted in getting plastic buckets from the kitchen where I work, drilling holes and painting them with "paint for plastic". They don't look great, but they'll do.

Any better suggestions?

If you just want standard blow-molded 5 gallon nursery pots, here is a source - http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/prodinfo.asp?number=CN%2DNCE The cost is about $.85 US per pot.

Has anyone tried painting the pots a light color? Here in central Texas, black pots heat the soil up too much.

I actually did spray paint some of mine white last year... it helped some.. at least I think it did. The plants survived. The paint stayed on well also.

Oh boy... that's a good point. Forgot about black heating up. Thanks!
