Homemade Cat Food?

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

With the current recall on so many brands of wet cat food, I've been thinking about trying my hand at making it myself.

Question #1: Has anyone else done this? Please share your comments. :)

For example, I did some internet searches over the weekend and found a wet cat food recipe for a chicken stew with brown rice and lots of vegetables: carrots, celery, summer squash, broccoli, green beans, NO ONION.

Question #2: Why add brown rice?
Question #3: Keep or discard the vegetables?
Question #4: Keep or discard the skin and/or fat?

We have a young, long-haired outside cat that adopted us in the bitter cold late last winter - probably someone's undesired Christmas present - that I'd like to keep around for many years to come. (She'd love to be an inside cat, but that's not possible due to extended family allergies.) The thing is, I've never been owned by a cat before, and information on the proper feeding of them is beginning to overwhelm me...

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!
Donna

P.S. She's quite camera shy at this point, and really just wanted to cuddle with Dad this afternoon, but she has gorgeous amber eyes. :) And we registered her as "Kitty" because we justs weren't sure she could survive that first winter outside. I tend to call her "Little One" when she talks to me, despite the fact that she's filled out a *LOT* since she came straggling to our doorstep.
