WS SPROUTS!

(Zone 6a)

I just saw Poppy sprouts!!! Tiny little half sprouted Poppies! I first noticed them yesterday and today they seem to have grown a little....even in this freezing weather. They're to miniscule to take a decent picture now (did I already mention it's freezing out?), but if anyone wants a half-blurry shot of tiny seeds with little roots sticking out, I'll run back out and snap one............................Otherwise I won't be able to snap one till Wednesday...it's supposed to go up to 4C and stop snowing...it's also when I must return to work. How does that figure?

Steven

Heres a shot of all my containers so far, the ones on the ground have since been moved onto a table.

I'm finding it hard to believe though, looking out the window at all the snow on the ground, with more falling :(

(Zone 6a)

Yeah...............winter decided to arrive late this year and now it doesn't want to leave...

Isn't it amazing how a gardener can immediately spot the teeniest, tiniest sign of life in a container full of soil? I think we must have been granted special "green alert" zoom vision :-)

(Zone 6a)

Ooo, makes me feel like Superman....but instead of x-ray vision we have green alert vision.

Steve, I had a feeling you were gonna be the first up here to have sprouts from WSing ;p Sheesh, half a zone over makes quite a difference!
You realize that since you're first, you've just started the WSing show & tell and I hope I'll have something soon! All I got right now is snow out there and muck....but muck is a good thing right? My tulips are poking their little heads up, about 1cm,lol. My DH wondered how I spotted them but tis true that gardeners can spot the littlest bit of green!

Good going on them poppies; can't wait to see more.

oooo...maybe we need a new thread now? winter sowing show and tell??? Cool title for it too Erynne, say that 3 times fast with a frozen face ( just took the dog out and it's -3 here)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Great to see some sprouts. Will be awhile here in Ottawa, but the forecast is for warmer weather; so by the end of the week...

Spring actually arrives TODAY according to the CBC.

Yup! Today at 8:07 p.m. EDT. So the weather better just straighten up and fly right :-)

You've answered a question I had, Steve. I wasn't sure whether to just plunk the containers on the ground or to cover them, or what? lol

Thanks, Joan

(Zone 6a)

Thanks for your comments everyone!

Erynne - I can't wait to see your sprouts and everybody elses. I saw a thread over on the WS forum and there people in zone 5 who have sprouts, so it'll only be days now till some pop up.

Sandy - Nice photo :) I can't wait to see the daffy's again :)

Joan - I've actualy since moved my containers on to a table, someone advised me that they would warm faster if they were off of the cold ground. Somthing that never crossed my mind.
So did you end up putting your's on the ground or on a table?

Should we start a new thread? "Winter Sowing Show and Tell"? Or wait till everyone has something?
I have to go back to Ginny's thread and see what everyone sowed!

Why don't we start it now? I'll bet it won't be long before we have other green alerts (at least that is my fervent prayer) :-)
