I have a new question regarding this...It seems like with brugs there is always "just one more question." I recently read that some plants are host pant to viruses that can aattack brugs. Some of the plants mentioned are the very ones I planned to put with my brugs for color contrast. Will these plants be a danger to my brugs even if I raised them myself from seed?
Companion plants for brugs?
I would love to see that list.
I grow my brugs with many different combinations of other plants. My favorite it to plant a nice row of brugs down the middle of my daylily and hosta bed. Last year I added several varigated herb plants and some giant coleus to other beds with brugs and had nothing but compliments.
Oh Theraglady, we need to see pictures. Your beds sound so fantastic. I think daylilies under them would look so great. I am geting so excited for this season. I can't wait to find lots of coleus. Too much fun!!
Carol, I understand datura and tomato plants can spread virus and also tobacco plants. And I guess cucumber because of cucumber mosiac. I think there was a warning out on geraniums 2 years ago that were carrying some sort of virus that was deadly to brugs. And for some reason petunias seem to stick in my mind. What ones did you hear about?
I have no clue but I think virus can be carried in seeds.
Surprisingly Kell it was your thread about your "varigated leaves." It was on the link to mosaic virus

I had planed to use Phlox, Asters, Sweet pea, Lisianthus, Marigold, Snapdragon, and others that are not on the list like butter daisy and hollyhocks for color contrast and color echo.
Oh dear, Carol, shows you how I never read my own links.
Well all I can say is phooey about that list. Forget it. LOL. My brugs will have to get virused. Gosh, I have more roses than I have brugs. And roses are going to get me thru the beginning of this flower season since my brugs got fried. And life without impatiens and begonias????????????? I do not think so. LOL
You know I have noticed how when brugs moved in here how selfish and time consuming they were. They also grabbed up all my room and were just generally all around piggish in their habits. Hogging all the fertilizer and water too. They also would put out incredible flushes that just screamed LOOK AT ME!! LOOK AT ME!!! They want me to notice only them. They are like an extremely spoiled child. And now they want me to kick out my other children so they can be an only child and get all of the goodies. Makes you wonder.
LOL... I am glad you said that! I was really sad to think that my plans were sabotaged! I am going to plant what I like and if they get sick then off with their heads! I sure hope they are worth all this worry and care! I have never had a brug until last summer and still have not had one bloom. I have a greenhouse full of rooted cuttings and I just hope they are worth it!
