Zone mystery solved

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

When I first moved here 12 years ago, I thought I lived in Zone 7b. I looked up my Zone when I joined DG, I had "upgraded".Today in the FW Star Telegram, there was an article on how they have changed...no 10 F degree lows in more than 10 years.Has this been your experience :some annuals have become perennials?

I know there has been discussions, and I know the USDA has promised to update the zone list, but there has been so much debate over changes it's been dragging.

Although other organizations have come up with their own updated zone maps, Dave has said he will not update this site until the official USDA zone map is changed: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/685449/

Yes, it did mention there was disagreement as to why it has warmed up.Thanks for the link. I wish they made it bigger and able to zoom in on a specific area. Are you in that little "tail" of zone 7b?

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

I think the zone 7b/8a border runs right through the middle of the DFW area, with areas north and west on the "7b" side, and south/east on the "8a" side. However, if you've seen the new climate zone map that not too many of the gardening sites and vendors are using yet, we're all in zone 8 now!

Thanks for the info about the line. Makes sense FW is 7b even though you are south. Is the new climate zone THE OFFICIAL USDA?
