new brown just discovered

Santa Rosa, CA

Hi folks

I happened along this nice brown that until now I had overlooked. It's a nice one I think. This was hybridized by a friend/customer in the Virgin Islands. As yet unnamed I believe. Hope you enjoy!

Who's going to the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show? Starts this Wednesday. We have more flowers this year than ever before. Hope to see some of you there.

Hi David, I would also like to happen along that nice brown flower!
Are any available?

Dave

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

David wish I could make the show. I miss my city by the bay. :-(

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Super cool flower - I love the lavender eye!

Well, David...do you do any pro-bono Hibiscus mailings to poor underprivileged gardeners in Florida?
...ones who are desperate for brown flowers?
If so, I will be kind and name it "Murple Surple" after a waffle I once knew. :-)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I will be there on Friday so if you're there that day, I hope to meet you! I'll be bringing my in-laws and Mom too. Hope you have lots blooming too, I'll take pictures and post them here.

Santa Rosa, CA

Hi guys

Murple Surple? Lol! As far as I know this is a one of a kind flower...at least for now until the hybridizer is relocated (that is found, not interned.) Want to get permission from him to reproduce as he left the plant in my care before he went *poof*

Santa Rosa, CA

My lovely wife Linda and I will be there all five days. Then they cart us off to the hibiscus detox center for a few days. Hopefully you will let me know you're there. We try and keep the paparazzi from taking too many pics. Lol!

I'll try to stay low key and not be too obvious with the camera LOL! :-) :-0

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh David, I do not even like brown ones but I love that one.

Lali, Zuzu, Patricia and I will be there at opening on Wednesday. LOL Hey Sue, nothing will be left by Friday.

We were planning to come to your GH David, before you sold all the good ones at the show. Shoot. Time just flies. I wonder if we could get it together to come Monday. Will you be at your GH Monday? I want you to know I had a hibiscus in my hot hand today at a nursery in Sacramento actually at the register with my wallet out and Lali made me put it down because she said we were going to get yours. True story!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

True story indeed!! It didn't measure up by a long shot to yours David!

Santa Rosa, CA

Hey thats very nice of you. I'm afraid Monday is going to be difficult though as it's a huge shipping day for us and then putting the final things together for the show. Bare with me and I will make sure I set aside some nice ones for you on Wednesday. It's supposed to be a better show this year as there are more plant folks..or so they have told me. I hope so. See ya Wednesday.

I can only think of one word for this one Awesome!! I wish I too could go to this show you all are talking about. Probably good thing I cannot. I would probably need a second mortgage on my house. :o)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well shoot, the idea is not to have to bring tons of hibiscus home from the show as we will be on the prowl for other stuff too.

Is Tuesday out too? Our fault, the time just went by and here we are the week of the show.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Darn it! I really wanted to get to the greenhouse before the show too, and I can't make it to the show on Wednesday either. The weather still isn't warm enough for me to go anywhere in the morning.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I would have come opening day but my Mom has her tax appointment that day plus the in-laws are driving down from BC, arriving Tues so I figured Wed would be just too tiring for them. Kell, save me something, or at least email what the hot items are and tell me where to find them! Besides David's booth.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You should come both days, Sue. I bought a 2 day pass. You know you can get cheaper tickets if you buy them online before the 20th.

Zuzu, maybe David will let us come Tuesday so we can have out pick of all the ones for the show. But I bet he will have them all wrapped by then. Shoot.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I want Chads and Mini Ballerina. David has them in 4-inch pots and in gallon containers. I guess I could just get them by mail, but I want to walk around the greenhouses again.

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

You're gonna LOVE Mini Ballerina - I've got one planted in my yard next to some yellow Carolina Jasmine and it is just beautiful!!!

I so wish I could go to this show :-( My oldest daughter goes to school up in San Francisco, and I seriously was thinking of having her ditch class to go in my stead, lol!

That is awesome!

Hi folks

I'm afraid Tuesday...tomorrow...I'll be down at the Cow Palace setting up. Sorry. I'm not running out of anything yet I made sure we had lots of the more popular plants. Hey did you know that Antonelli's begonia is going to be there this year? They have the best. I'm looking forward to seeing them. It will be nice to see real begonia plants and not just bulbs for a change. Here's the site for the show http://www.gardenshow.com Check out the list of vendors. It's a better list this year I think.

Wow, that's a great list: Annie's Annuals, Antonelli Brothers, Digging Dog, Edelweiss, Geraniaceae, Passanisi, etc., etc., etc. Lots of my favorite mail-order sources and favorite drop-ins.

Good luck, David. I hope you make a ton of money and gain hundreds of new customers.

Lali, Talavera's on the list. Wow!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You should come Zuzu. It is only a day.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

You're right. I should. Who needs sleep? It is only one day.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Exactly. LOL. And think what fun we will have.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

There was never any question about the fun we'd have, Kell. I always have a lot of fun when you're around. I'm just still frozen from this awful winter and I've been hibernating as much as possible. I went to Safeway today and almost died of hypothermia in the frozen food aisle. I need to buy lots of Hibiscus and other tropicals to hypnotize myself into thinking it's warm.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Positively GREEN with envy here. I want to say have fun but I am feeling too jealous to be nice. :-(((((

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Hey Zuzie, remember that my super beetle has heated seats! I can keep you warm and toasty until we get there and the sight of all David's hibiscus will fool you into believing winter is over!
We had all those nice 85º days last week over here and today it's 55º (wah!!)

Santa Rosa, CA

And pouring rain from San Rafael through San Francisco. Can you believe that? Beautiful here in the 80's for the last two weeks and one day before the show it's in the 50s and raining. Sheesh. I set up down there today and everything is coming along nicely. Beautiful garden displays.

Hey Zuzu, you know you're only 15 minutes away. I could put you to work in the greenhouses where it's normally about 90 when the sun is out. We'll defrost you in a hurry here. I know exactly what you mean though. I get pretty tired of the wet and cold winters here. When it's time to retire I'm trying to talk my wife into Mexico. So far not much luck. Let me leave you with a flower to warm you up and hope to see you this week. Dancing Fire!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Oh, thank you, David. That gorgeous flower should tide me over nicely. I was considering Mexico, but they only let you bring two pets into the country, so I've decided to move to Florida instead.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Well David is doing fabulous business at the show, lots of happy customers walking around with new big blooming hibiscus! I heard from him that Kell has been there two days already. Here he is hiding behind his beauties.

Great meeting you David!

I would have brought that one home too. She is a beauty!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have lost my mind, and now need all in brown. I need this first one David. Quick get permisson.

Santa Rosa, CA

Hi folks

I don't know if anybody is still reading this thread but commenting on Sue's pic that is really a thorn between two roses...is that how it goes? Thanks Sue for the pic and the visit. I'm always sorry I don't have more time to talk. The show was a madhouse. Lots of fun though.

Kell, I did get permission and will be propagating that brown beauty very quickly. It's name is Anna Nicole.
