I have only one hoya , that is part of the family. It is dropping some leaves in the old growth . Question will the leaves ever grow back,or is all the energy going to the tons of new shoots? I often cut the new growth back but this year there seems to be a flowering stem every 8'' or so. Maybe I shouldn't be so greedy it already has30+ flowering stems.
Hoya 25+ years old
There IS a lot of energy going to the new growth and flowers...don't know if it is robbing the old leaves or not. You might increase your fertilizing just a bit....

I agree with Carol. I noticed last year that my 10-year-old H. publicalyx started to lose a lot of its old leaves, so I increased the frequency of my fertilizing - I began to add a smaller amount of fertilizer to every watering. I specifically increased the amount of nitrogen (I think). At any rate, the loss of the old leaves has subsided, and there is a lot of new growth as well. I would suggest, if you can do this, to change out your soil. If the plant has been sitting in the same soil for a really long time, then all of the nutrients are probably depleted, so the plant is deciding on putting all of its resources toward the new growth.

I will re pot and fertilize. Do leaves ever regrow on old vine?
Hey gardengus,
Go easy on the fert when you repot, since the new soil will have plenty of nutrients. In fact, you might want to wait for a month or so before you start with any fertilizer. I don't think leaves will return to old vine, but I will leave that question to our experts.
