Hey I'm Back!!!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 8a)

Hi everyone! One hurricane later and we are finally settled in in Birmingham, AL. I had let my subscription lapse b/c I wasn't even sure I was going to return to major gardening after losing EVERY SINGLE PLANT to Katrina. But of course, now spring is in the air and the urge has returned! Unfortunately, here in Zone 8 (I think) all my experience with growing subtropicals in New Orleans is now USELESS! Not even sure where to start. The soil here is SO different! Its all chert and gravel and red, red, red. I guess I need to find a good topsoil supplier - sigh. Any advice or referrals would be SO welcome!
Thanks and glad to be back!

Welcome back! glad to see that you've resurfaced!

Check out the Farm Forum and follow JustmeLisa's journey......they've landed in Kentucky about 12 miles from me. They moved 600 miles north to get away from the hurricanes...and going through one of the coldest winters we've had around here in a while was a real experience.

Birmingham is 4 hours from here...you ought to try and make Roundup over on Lake Barkley this fall...
