Lotus question

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I know you are not supposed to divide a lotus after the tips start growing as the new shoots are unusually tender and easily broken. However, do you think I could transplant a whole plant into a larger container? I would try to keep the rootball intact.

A friend gave me some young lotus offsets last fall and I stuck them in a pot and put them in a water garden. They died down for the winter and all of a sudden as these little plants are emerging I realize the pot is way too small. Have I missed my window of opportunity to transplant or should I take a chance?

You can do it now. I moved one of mine just this week. Gently lift the whole root ball out of the container. Put it into a larger container and then fill in around it with soil :)

Thanks Charlotte, I'll do it and hope for the best. I know I wouldn't have any flowers if I left it in that small pot.
