Last fall I built a deck 24' x 16' and had the roof done with acrylic sheets...loved it...although the acrylic sheets -(think they were 30" wide by 8' L) they let in mega sunshine both summer and winter..well now comes the disaster...Tuesday night I returned home from work to find that due to ice backup the entire unity collapsed...waiting till tmr. afternoon to see if insurance adjuster approves claim and repairs will start....but, had a brainwave thanks to all of you...wouldn't it be great if I could use some of the wood and construct a greenhouse frame and use the acrylic as walls???? think it would work????
Now I'm getting excited...maybe some good could come from this....
Disaster turned into blessing..what's your thoughts...
Sure it will work. The problem with those panels - they do break down with time, sunshine and weather.
But it would be a good starting point, right?
If you keep on the lookout for salvage windows, you could replace the original panels over time and not "bust" the budget.
A friend of ours owns a glass shop. Took him a few years to collect enough to build his GH, but saved a bunch. Only cost was the framing structure, and time. Whenever he got a call to replace storefronts and glass doors, he salvaged all the old glass. And on houses that were replacng whole windows with more efficient units, same thing.
thanks, you've great ideas...was at Rona yesterday and saw the ones they have for $1,000.00 - look nice BUT I've learned that anything that comes in a box isn't as easy to put up as they say...being on my own, I tried a storage shed..worked on it for about 2 weeks, finally had to call in contractor who said he'd never use the metal floor frame, went to the garbage and he built a wooden platform...so it cost me $300.00 for labor..so don't know if it's worth it..was going to put it on my Mother's Day list???? not sure ...but sure would love an area to putter in..
