We have sites on our property where trees were cut down many years ago and the stumps left to rot...probably pine trees....I have used much of the rotted wood out of the stumps in my compost piles but am wondering if I could add soil to the existing holes which are still pretty filled with rotted wood roots & use them to plant different trees? Would the rotted wood continue to break down adding nutrients to the new trees? Thank you for any suggestions or insights....Deb
Depsi, sorry I missed this thread, and, Yes, I have experianced what you have on hand.If you don't plan on planting the area this year, then put all your grass clippings in the holes, and turn, once in every 2-3 weeks, but if you plan on using the area this year, you will need good composted (green) material, ie, coffee grounds, composted cow manuer, or what you can think of that has plenty of nitrogen, because your stumps are carbon.Hope this helps.
