Look what I found at Walmart

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I was in Walmart the other day and I found 7 different African Violets and all of the ones that I picked had names. They had both named and unnamed ones but I got the 7 ones that had names because I did not have any of them, plus DH was looking pretty uneasy as I kept putting them in the cart. And can you believe that one of them was variegated and a beautiful variegated one at that. Anyway, keep in mind that my camera is not doing the greatest job right now. I guess it needs a checkup. Here is a photo of all of them.

Beautiful, Jesse! I LOVE that variegated one! It is Gorgeous! The leaves are wonderful on that one! Not a bad haul at all .... sure wish our Wal-Mart would get some more named varieties in, but I've been checking the past few months and nothing! You did good Gal!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Jesse, I found all but the two regular purple ones at Walmart here...exactly the same, but mine didn't have names. I will say that they were beauties...let me show you one that is really unusual in that it has a lime green color around the leaf on each leaf. Also, I was happy to finally find a purple variegated one.....(I bought them out to send to DG friends)
plantladylin and I trade...this one went to her..

Here is one that I have wanted for a long time. The leaves on one side need to grow a bit but I still love it. It is called Optimara Michaelangelo.

Michaelangelo is awesome! I have to go to Walmart now!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I am going to propagate the variegated purple as they just had the one I found......now that I know how to do it, I am also going to propagate
the purple one i showed you where the flower radiates from the center that you liked so much!! I hope this is the right one???
But, i also want to make it over to Gill's on Friday to see their new ones where i found this purple one...

Put that one on my list too.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the compliments. It has been a while since I got that many at one time. I usually only get that many when I go to Bluebirds. But they had just come in and I got the pick of the litter. I was so happy to bring them all home to meet the rest of the gang.

This is just all the fun, achoogardner, that a person could have....Lin, I also have that dark red one that i want to propagate.....if you ladies are willing to root the leaf, I will be happy to let you do it or I can just do it as i go....I don't know why Plantcrazii has names and mine are identical...the light pink, the light blue lavender, etc????
When i find this purple one I will get all they have.....

(Zone 1)

Yes Gail ... That is THE one! I love that purple one! Please, Please, put down a leaf or two with my name on them!

Here's one I found at our Wal-Mart about a month ago when they had a few with Optimara Label's. I have gone to the Opt. ID Websitel, but I couldn't figure out which one it might be! I am no good at looking at photo's and then at my plants and trying to ID them! I found one somewhere on there called 'Clementine' and that was the closest I could come to mine, but I didn't put a name on it, since I'm not sure.

Here she is:

The red one Plantcrazii shared with us looked like hers when it was new....although it is darker than the picture I am going to show you, it has actually turned more to a dark rosy red,but look at the shape of the flower..kinda curly looking..now i will quit posting....just got carried away when i saw your Av's Plantcrazii and realized these were the same ones i found....although this red one came from Gills in CC.

Lin,that really does look like it could indeed be clementine.Pretty : ))

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

OK Lin, I have the same one from Walmart...I never know if mine would even have a name.....although i think that Gill's nursery is getting in plants from someone other than Walmart's....they just look different.
Here is mine that looks like yours i got at Wally World...it bloomed out for a while....now it appears the flower has more lavender than the blue it started blooming with??????

Thanks Nancy ... I like it with that blush of lilac on some of the flowers.

I am having AV envy here looking at all those Beauties you found, Jesse!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Jesse, they are beautiful!!!! I love the Optimara Modesty. If you have FC2, take a look at the second pic.

Debbie

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Here is another Optimara but it was not labeled like the rest. Can you all tell me what type of bloom it has? I really like the way the flowers look, sort of ruffled and really cute. Anyone want to take a guess as to what type of bloom it might be?

Thanks,
Jesse

Pretty pretty little violets. I do love it when they bloom.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Here is a better photo of Optimara Modesty. I realized that she did not look all that great on a light surface because you can't see the edges very well. So here is a new photo of her. I took a leaf off of her to start some new babies. Hopefully I will have a lot of Modesty babies to share in the future.

That is one of my absolute favorites Jesse.I hope it blooms as much for you as mine has.Going on an entire month of blooms : ) You have got to love that awesome edging on the leaves.Yours is Super Gorgeous!
Nancy

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, the edging on the leaves is what I love so good. I could not believe I got this plant from Walmart of all places. And the ones that I got all had names which was surprising. I will keep an eye out for some more of these. I would not mind having more of the same one if it looked this neat.

Jesse

I hear ya Jesse,Unbelievable Beauty and finding it at Walmart was amazing. You should ask them if they are going to get anymore in you just might get lucky again ; ).

Those leaves are to die for!

If you are at Wal-Marts when they get the violets in, you can frequently find chimeras (ones with broad different color stripe down the middle of each petal in this case.)

I was at the African Violet Show at the Internation Flower Show they used to have there back in the 60s when the Optimaras were first introduced in the USA and they just had a table of them each about 18 inches in diameter or more with a solid half-ball of blooms on each one that was spectacular.

There was an article in the AV Magazine back then on how they grew them.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

thanks lanewalk for the info. on chimeras...didn't know that....will start looking.
