I'm sure that this query has been made a gagillion times but I wasn't around to benefit. Could one of you kind brugmansia enthusiasts please help me to understand this mottling on my 'Aztec Sun'?
I know enough about horticulture to know that it isn't mites. It appears to me to be abiotic. But I'm not enough of a brugmeister to diagnose this.
Thank you very much.
spotty leaves
WELCOME to the Brug Forum Watersedge!
I like that word, abiotic. Meaning not caused by bugs? I too do not think it looks like mite damage or from other bugs. I am having my own spot issues, LOL. Hugely so. And I am no brugmeister but I can tell you what I would do with that brug for what that is worth. Winter brings out lots of weird leaves so I would not panic yet. But I would foliar spray it with a high nitrogen fertilizer that has lots of minors to see if it is from a nutritional deficiency. Also soil feed it but foliar feed works so fast. There are some nutritional deficiency websites that you can go look at and see what looks most like your picture. Also Tonny has some great pictures on this thread and I think there are some websites listed to look at more pictures.

The other thing it could be is viral in nature. If the leaves start to get bumpy I would toss it ASAP. In the meantime, wash your hands well if you touch it before you touch your other plants and never cut on it without boiling your clippers after for at least 5 minutes. Just in case.
Maybe some one else has a thought or even similar leaf experience. Good luck to you for sure. Let us know if it clears up or gets worse.
I've had that exactly that on a Brug and I took it to a plant pathologist who told me it was viral. I destroyed the plant, though it did not seem to affect the plant's performance.
However, as Tonny has pointed out some of these symptoms may be to do with nutrition, though those dark dots in the middle of each 'lesion' are a bit suspect..
In the mean time I suggest following Kell's good advice re hygiene whatever the prob may turn out to be...
