Looks like there are some Rhode Island Reds, and Possibly Black Astrolorpe, and Hmmmm , dunno! Oh well, if I can figure out the Rocks I'll be happy, they are theones I ordered for me! but the little Brown Chipmunky ones are sooo precious..... awwww just look at the little Yellow one .. He likes me,........ Man , the little greyish one just jumped into my hand,..... ding dang it... I cant keep them all!!!!
Well I have done the Proud Mama thing for now, I know you all are laughing your heads off at me!!!! But ... I know you all are doing or will be doing the same thing!!!!
Backyard Hens, I see you ordered from Meyer too! I ordered last week( hoping to get in on their special sale, but they sold out,POOH), Any way, these are all healthy and seem to be eating and drinking very well!
One of my little girls has white tipped wing feathers , they are very prominant and pretty! Her name will be "Tipsy"!
Oh, they're too too too cute! I'm not laughing, I'm envious!!!
I have a whole month before my chicks will be shipped out.... it's hard to wait, especially seeing such cute pics!!
Do you keep the chicks on the newspaper ?? I bought some rolls of the "rubbermaid type" drawer liner for mine to stay on. I heard you can wash it and replace it easy enough.
Thanks for sharing !!

if i didnt have guineas i would be wanting some. cute
Oh My , Yes they are so cute , and I fall in love with each and every one of them! Each one has a different little voice , some loud and some even louder!! I have been trying not to touch them too much just yet but its very hard not to! I do however "Bawk bawk" really softly to them and call Chicky Chicky, so they will get used to my voice and movements! This keeps them from being runaway scaredy cats later on! The Barred Rocks I will Keep so I want them to be really tame!
Hi Jab, No I want be keeping them on newspaper. That is just for the newbies, til I can be sure what I have as far as healthy Chicks! Then they go out to a separate Brooder box with lamp for heat! There they will be on clean Play sand,( big 40 pound bag for under$ 3.00) The box is 5 ft. long and has a solid door on top to close them in at night, and a screen top for the day time! There are air screened in air vents on either end!
I just use a little mini hand garden rake to gather up the Poo everyday and rake the sand smooth again! After all if they were being cared for by their Mom, She would not be that picky!!!
Adorable, Eufaula. Mine don't come until early May, so I'm jealous!
Oh I know I probably got mine too early! But I couldnt wait ! The temps here today are going to be in the low 80's again, its 2:00 and its already 75! So I figured I would try! I have plenty of space for them ,inside,if the temps drop again!
Imzadi, I really want Guineas too! They always dissappear into the woods around here though! Ive lost 6 and that was heartbreaking! I loved those little loudmouths!
i have lost a few to wandering and cars also. i am keeping the three i have now penned for a long while before i let them out.
i got these as almost adults so it will be awhile be fore they free range. yes they have there own call. and most definatly can be loud when want too. hehe
Well its day two and all are fine but one little Buffy. She just never did get the energy to walk and eat! I dipped her head and she drank fine but never did attempt to do as the others! She was just very lethargic and sleepy acting! So I kept her warm and made sure no one stepped on her or slept on top of her. Early this morning she just never woke up! I guess the whole shipping Trial was too much for her! So Sad!
The rest are doing wonderfully though! I have them inside until I can make sure they are all going to make it. With the warming light on for them they played all night long! There is one that is soooooo much louder than the rest and it was really funny, to hear the constant Peeping ( which was very soft) then all of a sudden this LOUD burst of Chirping that wouldnt quit! This morning they are all so exhausted, and sleeping. Just like a newborn, night and day mixed up! So I changed their paper and water ,refilled the feed container and covered there little brooder and Quietly walked away! ( oh I sneak a peak every now and then, just cant help It!)
So cute !
Oh my goodness..............they are precious! Abolutely darling - - - loved all the pics! Keep 'em coming for us! You will be amazed at HOW fast they grow! My 26 are all two weeks old now, and they are getting the prettiest wing and tail feathers. I love them. ALL. :-) I love the pic of your little dog taking care of the chick. My tiny toy poodle does the exact same thing. She thinks that "she" is their Momma! lol So fun. My first batch of eggs that I put in my very first bator are due TODAY..........happy dance, happy dance, happy dance............I hope to post pics later tonight if all goes well! ☺ So far just a few have pipped, so they may keep me up ALL night! :-)

Little Tipsy, stays at the cage door now and demands to be picked up and loved on! Even My DH has become the Papa Roo here! He really loves it when one of the babies reponds to him! this little girl is going to have a rough time realizing shes a chicken! Oh well, I might have to adjust to the fact too!
You've got it bad, Eufaula. Those are some lovely little chicks.
As you can see I will be putting Bird netting on the top. Its a framework for a large tent, lightweight Aluminum. I did however remove one section of poles to make it more manageable for me! I am going to cover one end with tent cover and forld it back . Bungee cords are great for this.
The chicks now have a lot of daytime growing room, their own little play ground! They are still very small and will not stay out there at night. I leave their brooder cage in the area for them. At early afternoon they get tired and just jump right back into the cage. Chickens are such creatures of habit, and youcan depend on them to,(pretty Much) do the same things at the same time everyday , if you dont change their habitat too much!
Cute cute cute!!! I haven't order yet.. but gonna order soon as Dh said go and order some! I said wait next year but this forum makes me want to order NOW! LOL.. Still have two barred hens!
Love the playpen Eufaula. I know your chicks are super happy and will appreciate all your hard work!

They are to cute .
Yes, they are addictive and so precious to me! I hate going away, and leaving them! My DH has to help remind me they are Just Chickens, Haaaaaa!!!!! He has the same problem though! As you can tell from these pictures of him! ..and these were taken deliberately, you cant even imagine the things I could have caught when the camera wasnt around!!!
( Does every one have a raggedy old recliner, like this, that just cannot be thrown away???)LOL!!!
