Ordered my babies! Got less 12 from meyer hatchery

Antrim, NH

So I ordered 12 chicks from meyer hatchery in ohio. I'm SO excited! I'm doubling my flock size. I was delighted to find somewhere that lets you order less than 25 chicks. I talked to them on the phone, too, and they seem great. What they do is overnight ship them to you, with a heating pad. It costs a little more ($20) but I would have paid that anyway buying 13 more chicks I didnt want! LOL! I'm soooooooo excited to have chicks again!

I got 2 standard aracaunas
1 cuckoo maran
and 9 silkies ( straight run) I'm going to give breeding them a go this year. Any advice on that?

I have 2 silkies, 1 cochin frizzle, 4 bantam hens ( siliver laced wyandotte, 2 white brahmas and a gold brahma) and 5 big gals ~ 2 silver laced wyandottes, 1 sex-link, 1 barred rock and one buff orpington.

My plan is to build a new chicken barn ( yay) and divide them up into two flocks. A silkie flock ( with the frizzle, too, since she seems to hang with the silkies) and an egg laying flock. I can't wait!! Is it the end of April yet?

Your chicks are due to arrive the end of April ? Fun.

If you don't mind me asking............. What did it cost for the 12 you got, plus the shipping, and the heat pad from the Meyer hatchery ?

I think that might be the way for me to go if it's not just crazy pricewise.

How exciting for you BYH! Be sure to post us pics when you get them!!!!! Your silkies will be so fun to raise, breed, hatch eggs with. They are SO calm and friendly. Keep us posted on your new chicken barn - - - would love to see final pics! Best of luck!

Thanks guys!

The total bill was about $65 for 12 chicks, becuase there was shipping( $13) plus a small order charge of $20. It is a lot, it is true, but I think it is $20 well spent, because otherwise I would have spent more than that ordering 13 more chicks I didn't want or need. Plus I was able to get exactly what I wanted. Last year I had a total disaster at the local feed store and ended up with four runty chicks that weren't even what I had ordered! So now I am really pumped up to get my new chicks! And then I get to build a new chicken barn! Woo hoo!

I'm going to be new to silkie roos. I hope it all goes well :) I'm really excited about my babies coming. Only a little over a month left!

Congratulations! Sounds like fun!

Are you building your chicken barn yourself? Do you have it all planned out? I can't wait to see pictures of chicks and barn!
