I got my World of Hoyas book!!!!

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh hooray, I just got my book of Annie Wayman's and it is FABULOUS!!! Granted, I haven't sat down and read every single word, but it sure appears to be a comprehensive, yet hobbyist-friendly book. I love the fact that it contains both text and large photos of the entire plant and blooms!
Well done, Annie ... well done!!!

I would like info on this too. I am new to Hoyas.

Prescott, AZ

Marieortiz, you need to D-mail SandyC for info on this book, and she will get you hooked right up.

Sad to say mine has not arrived. Sniff Sniff

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Tami don't encourage Marie, she's slowly turning into a hoya addict! I haven't received mine either:-(.

Hi Awanda I have been lurkng and trying to avoid this forum but I am also a book addict too.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I have just enough room for another good plant book. :) I too would love to know where to buy it. I only have two Hoya's so far, but I'm hoping there will be some different ones in the garden centers this spring.

Priest River, ID

Finally got smart and went to town to check my mail and what a wonderful little white box I found................The book is beautiful now to get Annie started on the next one...............Would be a great waste to not get all her info in books...She has been the hard drive of alot of major Hoya collectors for 30 plus years...When we start losing these folks we have lost alot of info.............OK I'll stop !!!! Sandy

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I ordered the book, and can't wait to get it.

Since I'm very new to Hoyas and the Hoya community, would someone please tell me who Annie is?

Thanks

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Great question Joan. One that I was considering asking but just did not do it.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Joan and Marie, Ann Wayman has been studying Hoyas for years - she is one third of the Hoya triumvirate that also includes Dale Kloppenburg and Ted Green. Ann actually has a hoya named after her, the H. waymaniae. She is the editor of the hoya journal called the Fraterna. She is a super nice lady who lives near Medford, Oregon and whose greenhouse I am personally very jealous of.
She sometimes joins us on this forum as Upenatem3am.
Hope the intro helps.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Thanks MsKitty for the introduction of Ann. I will be ordering her book soon.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Thank you! Now I'm really excited to receive the book.

Central Point, OR

O.K. ladies, I've been lurking also just to see what is being said about my book. So Far So Good. I sent 27 out by US mail monday morning and another 24 on tuesday so they should be getting there very soon if not today. Book rate is usually a few days behind priority but less than half the price. JoanJ, your book will go out tomorrow and this for Sandy C." I'm not quite ready for the grave yet and you're going to help me with the next book. I may even do 2 more lol.

Well, well, well ... the Hootchymama surfaces.
Annie, sometimes I think you're the Lock Ness Monster (only cuter) - surfacing here and there to give us all a little thrill, then disappearing into the ether. Glad to see you cruising the forum!!!!

Long Beach, CA

I got my book today and am just THRILLED with it. It even has my H. australis picture on the back cover. YEAH!! She used a couple of others of mine also. The pictures are ALL wonderful. I LOVE this book.
One thing.....I think I have chapter 23 twice. Anyone else have this?
Doesn't matter to me though. I am still busy reading and looking at the beautiful pics. Thanks again for doing this Annie.
Marcy

Long Beach, CA

Duh....wait a minute...it is not chapter 23. It is PAGE 23. The chapter on propagation. I have that twice.
Marcy

PS. One of my favorite pages is the "botanical terms chart" with the drawings of the various leaves & what the term means. . I have needed that a LONG time. Ha.
Marcy

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Nice to meet you Annie! I really look forward to getting my book.

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

I recieved mine too, I'm going to sit by the pond and go through it!! The cover picture is awesome!!

Central Point, OR

Marcy, you must be extra special...I don't think anyone else got an extra page. I just opened 3 boxes of 20 books in each and didn't find any others with an extra page. Can't figure out how that happened. I can't take either the credit or the blame for it, they were all done at the print shop. Just hope you're not missing a page.
I'm probably going to disappear into the murky waters of Lock Ness for awhile. Orders are pouring in, I even got a large order from a bookshop for "The Hoya Handbook" . Goodness, that thing has been going strong since 1991.
I love ya all. talk to you later

Long Beach, CA

I hope I am the only one experiencing this problem, but I have not only found extra pages, but MISSING pages. My book goes from page 2 to 19 with the missing pages not found elsewhere. Check your books closely for this, and hopefully this is the only one.
Marcy

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Marcy, did you let Annie know about this?

Central Point, OR

Oh Dear;
All of the first 60 books that I sent out, came out of 3 boxes. Everybody please check your books carefully for missing pages. I will replace any that are messed up. I just ask that you please send back the messed up ones, so I can have the print company replace them.
Thanks Annie W.

Prescott, AZ

Sniff Sniff, still haven't received any of my pages...

I received mine today, signed by Annie, and filled with such beatiful pictures. I especially enjoy reading about the regions that hoyas grow in naturally. Well done Annie! Thank you so much.
Christine

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Patience paid off!! I got mine today, and it is BEAUTIFUL!!! Headed to my cozy chair, diet coke in hand, to have a look and dream.....and probably make a list of "I want that one!" Beautiful job, Annie!!

Darn, my book is just like Marcy's - missing pages 3 through 18, and 19 through 34 are repeated.

Really enjoying the rest, though!

Wow what an amazing collection of info, thanks guys - without this forum i probably never would have known such a gem existed!!

Prescott, AZ

I received my book on Friday, I haven't had time to really read through it but fanned through real quick to see if it was put together correctly. Which it is... The pictures are just marvelous. Seems like winter has returned to my part of Arizona so I am going to have some down time from yard work to get some reading done :)
