WARNING

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I want to warn you about the spray ELIMINATOR it says SAFE FOR ALL FLOWERS well it is not, I had a couple of Brugs with Aphids, and I sprayed as instructions said, in two hours the leaves were dead, and very sticky, today it does not look like the plants will survive, this is sold at all Wall-Mart stores, and some garden centers, and is put out by Gro-Tech in Madison Georgia.

Thanks for the warning, Doris. I'm sorry about your Brugs. It sounds like the spray damaged the stems as well. That's powerful stuff.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I used a chemical last year to get rid of aphids and mites. I cant recall what the shelf name was but I beleive the chemical was cosan and I had the same reaction from it. Within hours everything that I sprayed with it looked as it they had been set on fire.

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

Thanks Doris I just stick with my Murphry's oil soap mixture, it doesn't get them with just one spraying but it is safe.

Doris,
So sorry to hear about your brugs, but thanks for the warning.

Ruth,
How do you mix your Murphy's?

Sharon

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Doris, that is so tough. Thanks for the warning.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Dang Doris! What a drag! Thank you for the warning! Which ones did you loose? I'm so sorry to hear that, I'm sure it was frustrating!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Doris for the warning.
So sorry you had to find this out the hard way. :(

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

This is just twenty minutes after a LIGHT sprying, they are, Day Dreams, Charles Grimaldie X Rosemond, and Shredded White.
I have sent the company a strong complaint letter.

You probably already did this but I would pick off the leaves and take the plant to the sink and turned sideways wash off the branches but try not to get the soil too wet. And then keep it on the dry side for a while for there are no leaves to drink up the water from the soil. And maybe they will pull thru for you Doris. I sure hope so. Sometimes you just can't win!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Good advice Kell. I too, would wash off the plant, without getting soil wet if possible. Maybe if you've caught it in time, plant might not have drawn in too much of the bad stuff.

Much luck!

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

Sharon sorry I'm just seeing this but the Murphry's Soap mixture is:

1/3Cup Murphry's oil Soap
1T Baking soda
Add to 1 gal water and spray as needed, it will take 2 or 3 spraying( a wk apart ) but it will get them.

Ruth,

Does it just work for Aphids or will it kill other insects?

Judy

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

so far I have not found the Murphys oil soap.
I did cut all leaves off, took them outside to wash the plant down without getting soil wet, but they do not look good, I sent pictures to the company.

Circle Pines, MN(Zone 4b)

You can find Murphy's Oil Soap in the cleaning section of most supermarkets - WalMart should even carry it. People use it to clean hardwood floors and other woodwork.

I sure hope your plants survive. Don't give up on them until the stems die back too... they may all get new leaves. I have my fingers crossed!

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry to hear about your Brugs!

(Zone 1)

I wouldn't give up on those Brugs just yet/ There is probably good viable wood that maybe wasn't harmed by that spray. I don't know much about Brugs, but why don't you want to get the soil wet? I was thinking you should flush the soil and roots to get any of that stuff through the roots and out of there! Could you repot? I sure hope you sent that company a photo showing the damage done by their product! I hope your Brugs can be saved.

The Murphy's mixture works on most insects and mites. It kills by stopping the breathing pores. That is why it takes several applications. You have to get the new hatches as it doesn't do eggs.I also mixes well with Neem oil.At Country Garden we use it once a week and never have problems.Well, almost never. There is always that overlooked corner somwhere..

(Zone 1)

I have used the Insecticidal Soap for a few years now and it seems to get some bugs and not others! I think I will give the Murphy's a try on my Gardenia Bushes that are huge and always have thrips on the flowers! In fact, a guy at a nursery once told me to just use liquid dish soap in water, but I only did it once, and it did work. The Murphy's would be a heck of a lot cheaper than the Insecticidal Soap sold in the Garden Centers!

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

Judy sorry I just saw your question but I see gone2seed answered your question, I try to keep me the Murphry's mixture on hand.

Dunedin, FL

Doris, I had a severe problen with Spider Mides on a few Brugs, I had used Bayer and some other things cautiosly not to clog the pores on the leaves or even kill the plant all together, but two weeks ago at Lowes i found the item which works fantastic it is from SPECTRACIDE IMMUNOX PLUS, Disease, Insect Control & Fertilizer, it is a spray that worked great without any harm whatsoever to my Brugs and covers a multitude of Insects & Diseases as Aphids, Leafminers, Leafrollers, Mealybugs, Spider Mites and Whiteflies etc. It states prevents and cures diseases comes also in a concentrate, I used the ready Spray. So far so good my Brugs have recovered totaly from being naked stems and look fantastic again with foliage and buds no signs of any harm.

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

I just found your question Judy but looks like gone2seed answered it, another good thing about the MSM besides killing the aphids is that you can use it and still breath not like a lot of the stuff you buy.

That is so sad! Hope you can rescue them. I work at a WM and the Murphy's Oil Soap is with the mop n Glow type stuff, floor and wood cleaners in the Paper Goods and Chemicals department. I love the smell of that stuff. I'm making a note of the treatment spray. I don't do much spraying for bugs and don't have anywhere to store alot of gardening chemicals so the homemade treatments really appeal to me.
Good luck!

So Sorry about your plants. I did the same thing last year, the plants looked like they were toasted. I pulled off the leaves, and washed the plant and even brushed out the top layer of dirt. They wanted to live and in a few weeks were almost back to where they had been before I sprayed. I don't remember what I was using but think it was operator error on my part. The M O S is great. I use that in the greenhouse where I have to smell what ever I spray.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Well I was not so lucky regarding my brugs after the spraying, I totaly LOST 8 and may still lose 4 more, it has about finished me for brugs, I tended them so carefully all winter and now I only have 10 left that will be OK. I am heartsick on 4 that I lost as they cannot be replaced.
I have never gotten an answer from the company and it is my feeling I never will

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

" I am heartsick on 4 that I lost as they cannot be replaced." All the folks here are so helpful maybe if you post the names some one may have that one and get you a cutting. I pray to it happens. Elaine

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

Karoke, so sorry you lost those brugs.. I have some from you, but not the ones you mentioned. Will look tomorrow. I will be more than happy to share back with you when mine grow this year. I had sprayed pesticide on some of my brugs last year in the hot sun and thought they were gone, but they all came back. I know you are just sick.
Hugs, Elaine
