Thunderstorms hit...dry creek's flowing!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Woohoo! Those thunderstorms that hit the Hill Country gave us at least 5" over this weekend...mostly since yesterday afternoon. Everything's so soggy! Haven't seen anything like this in a long time. Won't have to water my plants! Oh, the little dry creek runs across the corner of my property.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

pan handle of okla. got some good showers but ponds lakes look still low quite low.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Yippee! It is so wonderful to see mud! :o)

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Started raining here this morning, and a good thing, too -- my rainbarrels were all but empty. What a relief.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I got lots of seedlings in before the rain hit, I look forward to several days of daily showers to keep them happy while I lazily surf the internet. :o)

j/k I got more planting to do. But I can leave the ones already in alone for now.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

It completely missed us. Yesterday afternoon, it looked to be heading right for us. Boy was i wrong. I am still waiting for the meterologists to explain what happened. Hrmmphh... Looking at maps of the last 24 hours precipitation map, there is a circular area over Collin County, where .10 to .25 inch of rain fell. We got about .10.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

How funny, we aren't that far from McKinney and our ground was soaked when I got out this morning!

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Got 1/4" at my house in Rowlett. You're right, Sweezel, what happened to that Major Rain Event those WeatherLIARS talked about so much?? It now makes me wonder where we will see ANY more rain from this Major Rain Event. Hmph, indeed!

Carla

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

We got 1/2 inch here in Arlington, very much needed. I hope we get more.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

We got 2 1/2" here near Helotes...and another really good downpour tonight! You can almost hear a big ole slurping sound outside..lol. Lots of bluebonnets along 1604 as well... :) And hurray...my Fairy Duster is sprouting leaves...and my mexican butterfly plant is putting out leaves. I can't believe all of my native babies survived the ICE STORM of 2007...uncovered no less...!

Melanie

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

It's starting again. Wish I could send it to someplace that really needs it! Because we're good for a while.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah, it was not a major rain event here either, though we appreciate the inch or so that fell. No water ran into the tanks, but the early grasses will start to grow in the pastures. For that we and the cows are thankful. Really need some gully washing rains!

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

I keep a bucket on the patio to catch rainwater for
the houseplants and there was about an inch of rainwater
on the bottom this morning. Supposed to rain again tonight.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah, I saw that Larissa. It looked like the western half of Denton County got at least an inch of rain, looking at the 24 hr. precip. map on accuweather.com. I sure hope some of the rain comes up our way tonight or tomorrow. I went ahead and ran the sprinklers this morning, because I was not taking any chances since we only get one day a week that we can run them. The soil was pretty dry when I planted a few things over the weekend.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Ha! I finished planting an ENTIRE new garden bed just minutes before the storms hit. Score: Larissa 1, Storms 0

Muahahaha....

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

It is coming down hard here right now, with some small hail too.

Wimberley, TX(Zone 8a)

We got just over 6" Sun. nite! Our creek, which hasn't flowed in several yrs, was REALLY going, and still is...and so is the rain! The Blanco River looks great. This past yr was the worst I'd seen it in the almost 20 yrs I've been here. Unfortunately, A friend of ours was lost to the flood water Sun nite. Today was a real "funky" day....I was in the funk, for sure.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Sorry about your friend Dogmansis,
We got 1 1/2 inches this afternoon, which as greatly needed.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

That is terrible about your friend Dogmansis, very sad.

Josephine, did the hail damage your plants?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila, no it didn't the hail was rather small, thank God.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

We got over an inch Monday and I bet more than that yesterday, don't know the total yet. I don't want to sound ungrateful because I know we will be needing this water.....but I wish it wouldn't have been this week. This is spring break, my only time free to get into the gardens and get things in, and now everything is so soaking wet it will take days before I can get into them. About the time I have to go back to class and work. Sigh....sorry for the whining.

Kim

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh Kim, I feel really sorry for you, Not.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I live in a Manufactured Home Community (aka trailer park, lol) and I signed up for their mowing service. And they showed up today, tearing through my soaking wet lawn (and weeds) on a riding mower. Good gravy. One would think they would have more sense.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I tell you, those yard guys have no common sense at all, you have to watch them like a hawk.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Dogmansis, I am so sorry about the loss of your friend.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

I saw the reports about the drownings Sunday night. I'm so sorry you lost your friend, Dogmansis.

Almost needed galoshes to go fill the bird feeders. The weeds already have a head start, but no complaints from me about the bounteous rain.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm so sorry about your friend, too, Dogmansis.

I'm sorry about your soggy Spring break, too, Kim! I hope you are finding some other fun way to spend it. :-)

We just got home from a family dental appointment (woo hoo! LOL), and for a while there I was worried that we weren't going to make it home. There was one stretch of one road that was quite deep.. Yikes! We've gotten 4.65 inches of rain in the past 24 hours - 1.5 of those fell in the past 3 hours. My parents are driving down from Ohio starting tomorrow and will be here through next weekend. I hope the rain doesn't stick around too long!

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I think we've had about 1 1/2 inches since Sun. Really could use some more. DMIL said Canyon Lake is still very low. It's depressing. I was hoping we could get the fertilizer spread on the lawn before it rained, but it didn't happen. Oh well, I'm excited to have rain. Lol htop, it is exciting to have mud! And it's not just 1 inch deep.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Mary Lee, I have been pulliing weeds and it is so easy now after all of the rain.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Htop, you're right. I can't wait for Sun - my yard day! I received the cannas I ordered from the coop. I can't wait! I also have asiatic lilies and caladiums coming. Have you ever done cannas Htop?

We have to replace the bed edging I put in 5 years ago in one of my beds. I'm tired of the grass going under so easy. Dh agreed to build a rock border around it and make it nice and deep. Sunday is going to be a busy day.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

So true htop.....I was out today cleaning out flowerbeds, and the weeds come out so easily now. Especially the beepity-beep grass....lol. Unfortunately my veggie garden is still under water, but whatever waterlogs will just have to be replaced as soon as it goes down. Sigh....one of these summers I will actually get veggie gardening right down here. I already gave up on my tomato seedlings, they got stunted and still aren't very big. I got some transplants today. I was just happy for some sunshine and to be able to be out in it. I discovered a couple more things for the RU as well.

Kim
