My DH took me to the lady that sells AV out of her home. She was very sweet. She had a room with three long shelves set up in it. The AVs ranged from teeny tiny to about 8-10 inches across. I wished I had brought the digital camera along. She had some neat AVs. Lucille has been growing AVs for 40 years! Wow that's older than I am! She said there used to be a group around here but not anymore. The members got down to 2 and they quit. She did invite me to a get together on March 31st. I was super excited! I could learn alot from these folks. I am going to try to go if I'm off from work. I bought Pink Lady(her fav) and Green Pastures. She gave me two minis, Rob's Loose Noodle and Rob's Heebie Jeebie. She also gave me a leaf of Ragtime Cowboy. More babies!
Here is a picture...In the back, left to right is Green Pasture and Pink Lady. In the front left to right is Loose Noodle and Heebie Jeebie. I'm going to groom them in a bit.

I'll bet you had a blast!! I couldn't find a pic of Green Pastures. Is it Wrangler's Green Pastures?
Love the Pink Lady!!

It could be. She said something about Wrangler's. I'll ask her next time I see her. We need someone with First Class info.

Melissa, I was looking in First Class, that's how I found Wrangler's Green Pastures and it's a beauty!!! And it's pretty old too....1986....Double white, rose/mauve fantasy, green frilled edge. Variegated, glossy, ruffled foliage.
Debbie
baja, could you post the despriptions for me? I don't have First Class. I figured Lucille's varieties are older, which is great cause some are hard to find it seems. She is in a wheelchair and doesn't get out much. She only get other AVs if her son will go get them for her. She was such a nice lady. She gave me a magazine of African Violet, which is why I burnt dinner last night.
Melissa
what is the ladies name & add. i am sure i could send her some violets so she does'ent have to wait for her son, she sounds so sweet. it's hard when your in a wheel chair to get out, my mom was in one for years so i know, i'm sure alyson knows also.
mrsbonnie
I will ask her when I see her. I thought about giving her some of my leaves too. She is older and I don't know if she is trying to downsize.

Pink Lady: Double hot pink, green ruffled edge. Standard (Baker) That's all it says for this one. Here's a link to a not too great a pic on the AVSA website. http://www.avsa.org/Photographs.asp?Photos=P
Rob's Loose Noodle: Double white star, blue edge. Med green, pointed. Mini (R. Robinson)(5-31-01) Here's a link to AVSA. http://www.avsa.org/Photographs.asp?Photos=R
Rob's Heebie Jeebie: Semidouble white/red edge. Med green, plain, pointed. Semimini (R. Robinson)(10-6-1990) The pic on the AVSA is there in the link above, but not to good.
Thanks! I looked up the pics but I like to see how they describe them.
For your leaf, the only Ragtime Cowboy that's on FC is Wrangler's Ragtime Cowboy: Double red/violet star, green edge. Variegated dark green and pink, glossy, hairy, and ruffled. Large (W. Smith) (5-20-1986) No pic on the AVSA site.
Hope this helps!!
Debbie
I think it is Wrangler's. Thanks. I want to take the digital camera when I go next time.
I went to the meeting that Lucille invited me to yesterday. There was only four of us there, Lucille, Minnie, Libby and myself. We repotted some AVs that had very long necks. She showed us two different ways to do it. You can either plant the neck in the soil or cut the neck off and plant it in the soil. We also put down some leaves that she had in a baggie with a little bit of water for a month. We were shocked, they were just as crisp and fresh as if they had just been plucked! She told us to cut the stem diagonal(The shorter side being in front) so the babies come up in the front. She puts down two leaves in her solo cups. Lucille certainly knows what she is doing. She gave us all a few plantlets and some leaves. We chatted about AVs and just had a good time.
I brought these home:
plantlet: Maggie Lee
plantlet: NOID epicsia
leaves: Wrangler's Swinging Blues
Here's a pic of them.
what a treat for you and for us!!!! That Pink Lady causes the addiction to get greater!!!! That is really a blessing that you met this lady.....
