want to buy dwarf fruit trees

Des Moines, south of, WA(Zone 8b)

I went to Raintree's website but it's horribly organized and there's no way you can shop for dwarf fruit trees. You have to click on the individual link of each tree and then maybe another link for size. Ugh.

I'm making some room in my front yard in Des Moines in full sun. My hubby is ripping out some viburnums along the driveway, about 15-20 feet of them, that are overgrown and not my style. I'm going to put in some lavender as a hedge that will smell nice and not block my view as I back out of the driveway, but it occured to me that here's a great opportunity to put in a few very dwarf fruit trees.

I don't mind pruning, but I need the trees to stay to about 8 feet tall. Where besides Raintree can I easily shop for fruit trees that will do well in this climate?

Thanks, Sara

I love raintree. Ask them to send you their catalog and it makes it much easier to shop there! Their catalog is free. They're the only one I buy fruit from so I don't know of any other spot.

I wondered why my dwarf cherries got so big. Googled Gisela rootstock and found that there was a mix-up by the German company that resulted in some Gisela 6 (larger trees) being accidentally used for the Gisela 5 (dwarfer). Probably no longer in the marketplace, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Raintree is cool, got most of my fruits and berries from them.

One Green World, in Oregon, is another company that has fruit trees.

Thanks, I was trying to remember the One Green World folks. I'll try them.

Another place in WA is Burnt Ridge Nursery, kind of in the same area as Raintree. I think their prices are lower, better shipping, but the trees might be smaller also. Don't know if they have the dwarfs you are looking for.

I have wonderful experiences with Burnt Ridge, and my trees come from the same grower. Great quality, call them up, and ask! The owner is so helpful and honest, and can help you out. Because rootstock is not only there to define the hight of a tree ( if you don't prune them, even a mini tree will grow to become 15 to 18 feet tall!), it also comes into play with what your climate is, and what kind of soil you have!

I have 40 fruit trees, 3 hazelnuts and 2 ornamental trees in my micro orchard. With lavender too!

I posted my msn website, too many pictures and I can't choose! And, you can see them in different seasons.

It is work, never let them go, but they reward you with gorgeous blossoms, fruit and fall colour!
