This has been flowering for weeks.....at certain times of the day does have a scent ...not strong, but definately there!
Pudica
Maybe it's your cologne your smelling :)
Nice pix but none of mine smell...
Nice and healthy looking too..
What time of day? Mine doesn't have a scent either.
Different contintent, different soils. ?????
Yes, I agree...Pudica is supposed to be without scent. Perhaps yours is a seedling that crossed with another species? This is currently being done by professionals in order to create a Pudica with a fragrance. Many would kill for such a thing since Pudica is such a great bloomer! Many consider its lack of fragrance a flaw and therefore don't own one. I have a few seedlings which are seedlings of 'La Florida.' 'La Florida' is the first documented interspecific cross between Plumeria pudica x Plumeria rubra. It is hoped that the seedlings of 'La Florida' will have both the great leaves and a colored flower with a fragrance. Here is one of the seedlings. As you can see, the leaves aren't quite the same, but there is hope for it.
Great photo by the way!
I've always wanted a pudica, I don't care about the fragrance... those are great photos....

Okay--to stir the pot further---LOL--I HAVE noticed a very FAINT scent from my pudica early in the morning beore it gets hot outside. Others have told me of the same thing, though very FAINT.
Brad
Yes, that is right Brad...sometimes I can't detect any scent what so ever...other times it is definatly there...not strong as I said before..but there just the same...and no there aren't any scented plants nearby and no cologne either! This one may be like the moonflower.(very elusive)..everyone told me it had a beautiful scent...I could never detect it!!
Brad that was a bear or wild boar marking his territory..
;=)
Clare nice pic of your seedling from the picture you can see that the edge of the leaf is yellow is the flower a yellow? Thats what I look at in my seedlings the edge of the leaf has a color.
Hi Dana, the leaves don't give a hint about the color of the flower unfortunately. If you have had your leaves and flowers match up, it is just coincidental. I've had plenty of leaves with colorful edges that bore white flowers. The flowers of that particular seedling will more than likely be white as its pod parent has white flowers. The edges may look yellow in the picture, but they are not yellow in person. Here's a picture of one of my seedlings with leaves which have a distinct red trim, but the flower is white. I wish there were a way to know ahead of time what the flowers will look like, but there isn't. The only way is to wait 3-4 years until the seedling blooms;-)
Hi,
I also have a pudica and mine is very skinny... I was told when I bough it that is was older then a year but not yet two... that was last summer... the stem of this plumeria is like a pencil... It looks healthy and has grown but not in fatness... Are you all like this? Thanks for any help.
Susan
Susan, I believe that is the nature of the P. pudica species and some other species (thin stems).
I gave Don a peice of mine he thought it had been cut and healed. They don't bleed like a regular plumeria not a drop. I planted mine last week and it is breaking out with growth in different spots seems like they might be good growers too! Too bad no smell thats what I'm after the wonderful smell. Everyones pictures are great!
I love my Pudica!
She branches at almost every leaf scar!
Heavy bloomer, no allergic response
I love the leaf shape and the flower petals too.
Pudica is a great plumie.
Scent is extremely faint but there at times.
