Chitalpa in DFW

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm having a bit of a hard time locating a nursery that carries chitalpa trees. Anyone have any suggestions for the DFW area (the closer to Grapevine the better)?

I have a little tree that i got last year from a friend, but it is only 18 inches tall.
I will see her at the end of this month and ask her about seeds or plants. They are really beautiful.

I found (and bought) a "Morning Cloud" chitalpa at Redenta's in Arlington. :)

Good for you Dennis!

My parent's have a huge chitalpa tree, about 25'...and it puts out the prettiest little white blossoms...similar to a Desert Willow...I'll have to keep an eye out for some seed pods...

Oooh, that's beautiful ! I looked it up and found a photo.

Question: It seems they don't like humidity much and will do
poorly if there's a lot. Is the DFW area too humid for this
shrub/tree ? I'd sure like to get one if it's not.

I think this area is just fine for the Chitalpa. Mine is very small, bit I have seen others and they are fine.

I planted it yesterday. Mine is about 6 ft tall, and I've read it can grow several feet a year, so it shouldn't take long for it to get spectacular. I'll let you know if mine has any problems. I got the variety with the white flowers, which I read is more upright and less susceptible to powdery mildew.

Thank you for the information. Well, that leaves me no choice
but to get one :o) - yes, the white one for me too.
