I'm like a planting fool. :)
My neighbors are laughing at me, asking if I'd do their gardens next, etc. I can't seem to help myself but buy a new plant everytime I'm at Wal-Mart or just popping into nurseries, Lowe's, etc, if I am driving by "just to see what's new..."
Many of my seedlings are growing out of their small little starter pots aching to stretch their roots.
My only regret is I have to work today. But I can guarantee what I will be doing tomorrow. :-D
So WHO's taking advantage of this weather?
Just HAD to go to the Garden Center and buy dirt i.e. humus, top soil and fertilizers just in case DSIL can help this next week in getting in my plants that have overwintered in the garage: Angel's Trumpet, Yesterday-Today & Tomorrow, Ixora plus a Cecile Brunner I rec'd from J&P barerooted about 6 wks. ago, put in a big pot w/good soil but which really needs to go in the ground before it goes wild w/its long branches. Also, I need to get the new bougainvillea into a bigger pot since it has now outgrown its little pot. Imagine my DGS's "delight" when he finds out he gets to spend spring break weeding and planting Grandma's flower beds. The newest Bird of Paradise needs to get into the ground, also.

DH was going to plant a bunch of stuff in the garden today, but he read in the almanac that we shouldn't plant till March 21. So he just planted eggplants, I think. I don't know, I was trying to clean out one of my rose beds. I planted Mother of thyme near a New Dawn rose to try and discourage grass. Well the thyme took off and got really thick. The grass did have a hard time coming up through it, but it didn't have any trouble going under it. So now I have to dig up the thyme before I can dig out the grass. I think I'll be taking alot of thyme to the RU. Thyme anyone?:)
I am! We've been out weeding and tilling the beds and removing things that didn't survive that big freeze. We've cleaned up the porch and pots...I had no idea I had so many containers until they were all cleaned and lined up. It's out of control! Speaking of out of control, I stupidly planted some mint in the ground years ago with the idea that I could control it. I taught myself a lesson the hard way-it's all over the place and I've been playing catch-up. And I took rose cuttings today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I went to a nursery last week, but it was still a little early for them to be stocked up...they didn't even have the rooting hormone I needed. Though I stopped by Home Depot on the way home and got a surprise-an orange bougainvillea just like I coveted last year! (last year, I bought one out of bloom that was supposed to be orange but tured out to be pink.)
I'm having to sit on my hands to keep from planting tomatoes, too. I keep telling myself, "just a little while longer..."
What a beautiful day. I fixed my sprinkler system so that that soaker hose outlet is in a better area. I had to dig up some stuff but that gave me the chance to amend the soil. Planted daylilies...some looked pathetic...others had sprouted in the bag.
As I was out in the sunshine ,I kept thinking how great it is to have this forum.Everyone is so positive and helpful and friendly. I have learned so much in such a short time. You guys are great!
I wish I had been working in the garden today, but instead I was working indoors.
But watch out tomorrow, cause here I come, I have a lot to get done in a short time.
It looks like to rain today! I don't know whether to celebrate or not. This is my only day off to work in my yard.
Was out yesterday working in yard. Good thing, too. Looks like the rain/drizzle is gonna be here for while.
We got rain!!! Went to sleep last night to sound of rain. Haven't slept that well in years! DH says we got 3/4 inch first and then later it started again. Now he says there's 1.6 inches in the gage. It was such a shock when it really rained, we just stood in the doorway and stared.
And a nice gentle rain too!
We are having the worst drought on record for many years. I have too, been a gardening fool. My head is pounding from all the strain. I fertilized everything, more watering the lasagna grdn.,making alfalfa/mollasis tea, building gopher cages, planting trees and bare roots and making new garden areas and preparing to sow directly in the ground, tons of wildflowers and allysium seeds that I got at wall mart(sorry W.M. haters) on clearance in the fall and puting preemergent in the garden that has a little crabgrass coming through. No seed sowing there. I am tired and you? Thanks for askin!
I'm achy..sunburned....fire ant bitten....scratched from my agave....and just feelin' mighty mighty fine about all of it, lol. Spent the whole day weeding, pruning, staking, planting and just admiring all of my green babies finally waking up. :) Don't you just love this time of year? And we had a huge thunderstorm last night and got a lucky 2 1/2" of rain and another good downpour tonight. Finally seeing some bluebonnets here around San Antone... :) Life just don't get no better... :)

Greetings everyone!
I haven't posted all Winter, my work keeps me at a frantic pace during cool weather. I got out this weekend and went nuts, cleaning beds, planting. Put in four varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, an herb garden (thyme, cilantro, basil, radish, dill, and parsley).
Then I moved to the flower beds and put in zebrina hollihocks, summer phlox, some old fashioned petunias.
I still have a New Dawn climber, Iceberg climber and a Rainbow knockout to get in the ground, along with 30 asparagus crowns.
Hope all is well with everyone! I look forward to catching up with ya'll over the summer!
