Amazon Lily

St. Paul, MN(Zone 4b)

Hello All.

It's always a thrill when my Amazon Lillies (Eucharis grandilfora) bloom. The lovely, deliciously fragrant flowers last for days, and the plant requires virtually no care. I have had this plant in the same 12" pot for nearly 20 years. It always looks good, even when not blooming.

It's a thrill for me too, Erick. What a beautiful plant!

A closer picture of the flowers....

I have never seen any sort of pests on these plants - including spider mites - and they are not fussy about watering (I've heard that letting them wilt a bit encourages blooming, but I don't know if that's really true). I can't recommend them enough.

Eric yours looks lush and beautiful! I still have this one but it hasn't bloomed for me and it puts out new leaves and than they die back. What am I doing wrong???

Also what is the little leaved plant behind it?

Thank you Donna. I grow mine on a south-facing sunporch, so it get plenty of bright, but not direct, sunlight. I water it when I remember too, but try somewhat to keep it moist but not wet. I occasionally have to remove a brown leaf, but that's once every few months at most. I hope yours starts turning around soon.

The plant directly behind to flowers is a large Aristolochia ringens vine. To the right of that, with the tri-lobed leaves, is a large Aristolochia trilobata vine.

I'll have to check to see how many bulbs are in the pot. Maybe when I can bring it outside in the summer it will do better.
