CLOSED: Have: purple tuber jerusalem artichokes, blackberry vines

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Anyone want to trade? Would love some purple verbena, but make an offer.

Mullins, SC(Zone 8a)

I have some verbena Homestead purple, if that's the kind you mean. It's perennial here but the plants haven't greened up yet I think, haven't had time to check them. I'd love some of the jerusalem artichokes if you'd like to trade. LMK, thanks.

Sounds great Diana. If you could send me some of your homestead purple, that is exactly what I'd like. I can dig you a bunch of tubers tomorrow and send them out on monday. Why don't I send you the weight of the box once it is packed and you can send me the same amount of verbena?

Mullins, SC(Zone 8a)

Sorry to take so long to get back to you! I spent today (my only day off LOL) running errands and potting up stuff and never turned on the computer until now. I just went out and checked the verbena and it is greening up nicely. I have a patch that needs to be thinned out so I'd be happy to send you the plants I pull. I'm not sure how it would come out weightwise versus tubers, but I can go ahead and dig, send it on out to you and when you receive it you can judge how many tubers you'd like to send in return. I'm easy to please LOL and it doesn't take many artichokes to make a good patch. If there's a big difference in our shipping charges I can reimburse you. I could dig in the morning before work (barring anything unforseen) and my boss will let me run to the po and ship them on out to you during work hours if I don't have time to get there beforehand. LMK if this is acceptable, and thanks so much!

That sounds great. Thanks for the trade Diana!

I still have one lb of artichoke tubers and a flat rate box of blackberry vines ready to go. Anybody want them?

Mullins, SC(Zone 8a)

I got your verbena put into the mail priority this morning, conf # 0305 0830 0004 2806 9691. There is enough to divide into several good starts. When you go to mail out the tubers, DON'T tell the PO that it's perishable, they tacked on an extra $6.80 charge when I told them that this morning, for "special handling". Goodness, LOL! Won't do that again :) Hopefully it will expedite the delivery though, verbena is a shallow rooted plant, a creeper... I put some damp coir in the bag to keep the roots from drying out on the trip across the US. Let me know what condition they are in when they arrive and thanks so much for the trade!

I always answer no to perishable, fragile etc... I have sent fragile parishable items before and they didn't charge me extra just put a "fragile" sticker on. Sorry to hear it cost you so much to send those plants! :(

I sent a pound of different sized tubers, some of them are real big. The largest I could find in my plot. I packed the unwashed tubers in damp peat moss so they should be in excellent shape when they arrive.

Enjoy and thank you for the trade!

I would love some of these if you would like to trade for something else as well. How about some EEs. I have just dug some that were crowded. They are the green ones and tall over four feet...multiply very well. What do you think?

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi Janet. I'd prefer to stick with plants that are hardy, but if you'd like to pay for postage I'll send you a box of artichokes.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Well, that will work too, my EE's have been in the ground for four years, I do not dig them up every year. Just in case you thought differently..:Lol...either way I would love the tubers. I tried to get some to grow late in the season one year and they did not make it, so maybe planting them early is the answer...thanks for the offer.

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh, I thought they were tender. In that case, I'll try the EE. They do look neat! :) I'll send your box tomorrow. :)

Thanks for trading!!

No problem I will get yours out by Wednesday. They should be dry enough to ship then. Thanks again!

How do you grow artichokes? Are they a tuber,, rhyzome ... what? Difficult to grow? I have seen the flowers at a flower mart before. How long does it take to grow to blooming? I know... lots of questions... very curious. I have always wanted to try them.

Thanks so much! Can't wait to get it! I will get yours out tomorrow...I sent some out today and forgot we decided that you DID want some..LOL so will mail them tomorrw. Thanks again!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Tammie, they are tubers, much like potatoe tubers, and they should bloom this year, usually in late Summer, early Fall around my area. Sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you...

Mullins, SC(Zone 8a)

Got the tubers yesterday, they are very nice ones :) Full of eyes and ready to sprout. Thank you so much! I hope the verbena survived the trip to you with minimal stress, let me know.

Thanks again,

Got mine this weekend! Thanks so much, let me know when the EE's get there please. These look wonderful! Can't wait to get them planted!

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Your EE did arrive and looked good. A little on the dry side, but I think they'll do fine. I've put them in some moist potting soil in my garage until I can get them potted up or find a place in the yard. Thanks for a great trade!
