Do you use any professionals or products that aren't "mainstream"? I took the suggestion of a friend and tried a young man that does Equine Dentistry here instead of the vet. The vet wanted to sedate my horses to float their teeth, which is probably not that big of a deal, but a) since I was trailering them and b) since Alee is pregnant, I really didn't want to mess with it, just to be on the safe side. He came to the barn, took his time (and really improved the scenery for a bit... shew!) and charged me $50 a horse - probably not that much cheaper than the vet, but a heck of a lot more convenient than trailering the two back to the clinic.

I've also become very interested in "barefoot" horses and have been reading a lot about it on line. Broke down and ordered a book by the person who is kinda the big name in what seems to be a trend/fad right now, but haven't cracked it yet. Alee has those beautiful hard-as-rock black hooves and hasn't been shod for quite some time as far as I can tell and Hank has been unshod for almost a year. I still have them trimmed every 6 weeks and am thinking about picking up a rasp to do some in-between work. Any thoughts on the subject?

The pic is just an odd shot of my buddy's horse in Phx. No, those aren't her ribs, she's just marked that way. Guess what her name is? Spotty, of course! She has never been shod for over 18 years.
