Joinin yall from the windy prairie

Hammond, IL(Zone 5a)

This is the fourth attempt at posting on the Welcome Mat. Being a newbee on the computer and to DGs. I am glad to have many gardening cohorts, finally!!!! Have been gardening everywhere Ive lived and visited. Married farmer Gregg and moved to central Illinois heartland from Sedona, Arizona. Been in this rural, windy, prairieland, central Illinois about l3 years and still figuring how to deal with frost heave and wind burn...and hardiness!!!! When its -5 with drifting snow, a plants got to be hardy to z4 unless covered. I love nurturing a wide variety of plants and Im learning much by reading yalls imputs to topics on the forums. Thanx.....later

love the pic, Ginger = ). Looked on at atlas to see where you are...what hardiness Zone are you? Central Illinois (zone 5a) is prairie farmland. Lived here since l992. Grew up in the SanFrancisco Bay area..Palo Alto, California...I miss the ocean. We have great soil...and good moisture for growing...husband, farmer Gregg, grows corn and soy beans and I have 1/2 acre of yard to garden. The lawn shrinks annually as more raised beds are created. I am in joy gardening.

Did not know that...thanx. We get up to l00 in summer.usually 85-90, and in the winter down to -20 but usually in the 30s; with a wind chill and drifting snow...good stay in weather. Right now its sunny and 38, we'll get a few more frosts before Easter.
