AV Resources thread, feedback please

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Here's a link to the new sticky thread, in case you missed it: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/699383/

1) Is the sticky thread helpful (i.e., did you learn about a resource you didn't know existed, or how to better use one of the resources it described?)

2) How could it be more helpful?

3) Do you have any suggestions for helpful threads that should be included in the "Member's Favorites" area?

4) Other feedback for us?

Terry,
We usually have so much discussion going that I haven't checked that in a while, but will take a look at it tomorrow. I know when I first started "hanging out" on this forum I looked at it a lot.

You know, I keep forgetting about the stickies, until someone might ask a question about a certain plant , and another DG'er will refer us to the stickies! There seems to be really good info listed in the stickies, so I'd hate to see them go! I can't think of a thing to add to make them more helpful. I think it's great that most all forums have that info to refer to.

I am the very worst at forgetting what the stickies are......Sometimes i wish DG would add something to the effect of "Before asking a question or making a comment, please search these stickys"....maybe in a more subtle way than I said it.....I realize that for beginners in a forum, the posts we make are very redundant to the pros on the site!!!

hey guys, actually Terry is asking for feedback on the new sticky (we now have 3) - see the link in the first post.

Thanks Keyring ;o)

I'm wondering if the other two sticky threads should be incorporated into the resources thread, or leave them separate. Feedback and thoughts on that would be very welcome!

sorry, Keyring...

There are a lot of good links to outside sources of info (vendors too) in the stickies... As I recall, you don't like putting outside links in a resources thread because you don't want to monitor them to make sure they're still valid, etc. I believe Begoniacrazii recently put a lot of effort into redoing the previous stickies, fixing broken links, etc. So I think it makes sense to leave them as they are rather to incorporate them into the resources thread.

I should clarify, I wasn't going to re-do her threads or copy them. My suggestion was only to ask if I should make links to them from within the resources thread, or leave them stickied as they are now.

(Your recollection is absolutely correct: we can't take on the task of monitoring links to outside sources. But we can link to her threads, where she can continue maintaining the links.)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Please leave them stickied, because that makes their presence more obvious... I know they'd be easy to find as threads linked to the sticky, but having their subject headings right up at the top of the page helps people to know the information is there.

Just a happy FYI to note we have added a Watchdog category for AV supplies here: http://davesgarden.com/gwd/advanced.php?category=146&submit=Go

If you have any other favorite mail order sources for self-watering pots or other AV-specific supplies, please be sure to let us know and we'll add them to the Watchdog or add this category to their listing (if they're already included.)

Cool -- thanks, Terry!

You're very welcome!

One small note is you might want to change the word "canna" to African Violets in your Post #3256909??

Otherwise it looks ok to me.
