I couldn't resist the other day.I was taking cuttings of some different copper leaf plants (acalyphas) and arranged a few different colored leaves on a cart. I call the pic...Technicolor tapestry! :-)
Modern art??
Very pretty! You'll have to save those for next year's photo contest, very cool pictures (at first when I saw the thumbnail but before I opened the thread, I thought maybe it was a new strange hybrid you'd managed to develop!)
Priceless...I enjoy your artistry perfectly placed on the rolling bench.
Those pic are actually gorgeous.....would love to have the first one to blow up and hang in my home!!! REally neat art work.....if you decide you are willing to let me do that, you can dmail me and i will give you my home email!!!!! Quite unusual and really nice....
where in the world did you collect that many different plants?????
Betty, most varieties of copper leaf throw sports, much like coleus, so I take a cutting of the branch thats different and ta daa! a new one.
:-) Kyle
I saw some of these (huge ones) when I was at Kartuz, Kyle. They are a fun group of plants. You are such a lucky guy. You really are. I wish I had room for all I desire.

Kyle, you had some really skinny ones in that first picture. What does the plant with skinny leaves look like?
ardesia that acalypha Raggety Ann
Beautiful! Are these grown as outdoor garden plants, or indoors as houseplants? I am falling in love with all those colorful leaves! I gotta go google and learn about this plant! Please, Oh Please, tell me they will grow in my zone 9a!!
I know, Lin......I want every one of those plants!!! I think they will but i would need winter protection which is really not that big of a deal....they are wonderful!!!
Oh yeah! I want some to put in the ground and also for containers! I have a feeling they won't grow in my area cause I have NEVER seen anything like that down here! I did a google search for Acalyphas but it showed me "Chenille" plants .... hanging basket plants. Didn't look anything like Eclipse's photo's! I'm gonna search some more!
Kartuz in calif(Vista) sells many kinds of these.I got a few from them a couple of years ago. They will grow anywhere as long as they get water daily and no freezing temps. They grow large even in pots.I put out 6 inch potted plants in the spring and can have a 6 ft shrub by fall.
Kyle
Very pretty. I had 1 last year and it's been in the gh over winter. It lost all of it's leaves, is that normal? I did take some cuttings and think a few of them took. I really wanted several of them for this year.
Kyle, you're a man of many talents. (and with so many different plants)
Linda, I can cook too!!! LOL
Those are some beautiful leaves artfully arranged!
Plantlady, acalypha is a huge family including weeds. Chenille plant (A. hispida) and Kitten Tails (A. repens) are grown more for their catkins than their leaves. The copperleaf varieties are grown more for their leaves. The ones grown at Fairchild Tropical Gardens were over 12 foot tall.
Here was a cool acalypha I got last year. Its name is 'Firestorm'.

Kyle: You are in zone 5b, so I know you MUST get freezing temp's in Winter!! How do you keep them alive? I wonder why I've never seen them down here in Florida? I've been in Florida 40 years and have never seen them anywhere. They are so Gorgeous with all that color. We have colorful Croton's down here, but those Alcalypha's make Croton's look dull. There is one plant grown down here called "Copper Plant" that's an Alcalypha, and it's a bit colorful and pretty, but nothing like those in your photo's! I guess they are in the same family, so I might just have to Kartuz website and think about getting a couple. We do have cold temperatures for a couple of nights here and there in East Central Florida where I live, and have had hard freezes, but they are few and far between, rare. We had a couple of nights this winter in the 30's and had to cover a lot of plants in the yard. Croton's are successible to freezes too and will die if hit by a hard freeze. I have only one Croton in the ground, and cover it when cold temps or frost is predicted. We haven't had a hard freeze here in quite a long time. I have one large Croton in a container that gets moved in if it gets real cold.
Well, thanks for the info on your lovely plants Kyle ... they are just Gorgeous with all that color .... something you would think would only be grown in Hawaii.
Gail: You are correct .... Artwork! It would sure make a great painting, or photograph for wall art!
Lin
Hcmcdole: Must have been typing at the same time! Wow! I love "Firestorm' .... I will have to google that one for a source too! Beautiful!
edited to say: It almost looks like a variety of Croton!

Mine usually stay in the greenhouses at work since I use them downtown they need to be fully ready to go in the spring.
