My neighbors had a new sewer line put in and the company used our yard to pile the soil on. I will have some work to do in the spring. The hill was grass other than hosta along the steps, it doesn't look like there is a problem there. I had a small boulevard garden in that seems to be shaved off.
I am not looking for advice yet, I just want to have you put your thinking caps on. OK so I want to spout off a bit too. Whoops my house is the one on the left. The neighbors have much more of a mess than I do.
