Passiflora nelsoni?

St. Paul, MN(Zone 4b)

Hello All.

I stumbled across the Passiflora Society International web page today (I am not a paying member) where I read an interesting blurb on the "historic" blooming of Passiflora nelsoni - for the first time since the 1880's. Doing a web search for P. nelsoni yielded virtually nothing. Can anyone shed some light on this species? Does anyone even know of a description of the flower?

Thank you.

I found one pic although I don't know if it's this one. Try nelsonii instead of nelsoni in your search.

Thank you both very much. For all of the hype, I am bit underwhelmed by the flower.

I was a the Society meeting this weekend where I got to see a picture of the Nelsonii. It was unavailable for cuttings as it isn't big enough (Although I don't even think we got to see it except for in a slide show). Just for the fact that it is a rarely seen bloomer makes is special.

I'm hoping nobody throws anything at me but I got one from the meeting this weekend. I had to bare root it to get it home on the plane and it's a little wimpy right now, but hopefully it will make it.

The link below is the cbs story about this vine when it finally bloomed. For all of you that don't already know, these meetings (for Passiflora members of course), are a chance to meet people like John MacDougle (spelling) who is quoted in this article, John Vanderplank who basically wrote the first book for the public on Passiflora's, and of course, Ron Boender, the founder of Butterfly World and home to the largest US Passiflora collection.

POWWWWW! Mark, did you feel that? That was a pop in the arm. LOL I didn't even get to see it. Where was it hiding? I plan to try to get one from ROn next time I go down there.

Chris, after Cor Lourens got his hands on a bunch, there were about 6 left including one that was still out there just before we left on Sat. Next time, stick with me, I'll lead you to the good stuff.

As if Hubby wasn't jealous already of my Passiflora boyfriend LOL Did you get some of the fruits from Ethan (or Jonathon) for the seed bank? I got 2 of them and have a total of 226 seeds.

no, he said he would send me more later, he wanted to give them all to Cor.
