Look what I found today

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

This plant shouted "take me home" as I walked through a new nursery today. I didn't stand a chance and DH just rolled his eyes!

Is this the one folks were trying to ID a while back? The label says "P. Tibouchina marginata".

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

WOW!!

Where did you find that, I love Tibouchinas.
The Tibouchinas at the Biltmore Estate Conservatory were beautiful, but I've never seen one with that leaf color.

I would love to see a pic of it when it blooms

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Great find, that's a beauty.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

never ever, either, seen a leaf this color on a Tibouchina....please post the grand finale!!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I found it at a new nursery in Mt. Pleasant, "Down to Earth". Their inventory is still on the light side but they had a number of plants I had not seen in person before. It was just supposed to be an exploratory visit as I had been plant shoppng in Charleston with X the day before but, SIGH, they had such great material..........
A Rainbow Sunrise Phormium with wonderful colors also made it's way to the car as did a pretty orangy Abutalon.

St. Paul, MN(Zone 4b)

Wow, gorgeous. Congratulations on a great find!

I have finally admitted, I'm a 'plant a holic'.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I got the yellow-edged one from Plant Delights last year, I bet they probably still have it available if you're interested.

Coldwater, MI(Zone 5b)

Is the varigation/coloring on this plant stable? or does it revert back too green. Really pretty! Yeow!!

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

Gosh a tibouchina that is PINK?? I want it. What does the P stand for?? Can you picture the purple flowers on it??

I saw that flax immediately, Ardesia. You really had so much fun at this new nursery!!

Montreal, QC(Zone 4b)

AWSOME!
Just wanted to know if the green twig on the picture is from the same plant. If so, it might have reverted to its green form, in which case, please remove all the green from your plant to make sure you won't loose this stunning color.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

The other thing I wonder about is whether the leaf margins are really pink, or if they're supposed to be yellow and the pinkish tinge is just from cold exposure (I have a ton of plants with purplish leaves right now from our cold spell this winter). The reason I'm wondering is if you look closely, some of the leaf margins look more yellowish rather than pink.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

It was probably just the light the day I took that photo; I'm not much of a photographer. There are certainly a few branches where the leaves are greener; whether that indicates the plant may be reverting or not, only time will tell. I'll watch it carefully and note any tendencies.

The plant has only one trunk but lots of sifferent colors in the leaves. This one is an older leaf.

And this is some of the new growth on one of the greener branches. There is a faint pink edge and the "hair" on the leaves is pinkish. I really like the different colors on the same plant. I just spoke with a horticulturist from the nursery where I bought the plant and was told the color is permanent and they did not think the greener leaves were reverting; just that it was the plants normal coloration.

The P. in P. Tibouchina marginata must stand for PINK! LOL. I was looking it up last night and I found what may be it for sale at a past botanical garden plant sale in Mobile. It said it gets PINK in spring.

It is a beauty for sure. I love it. I am trying to visualize it with big purple flowers.

Here is one I found in the restricted part of a nursery here last year when I was sneaking around. They would not share though I begged with no pride. So rude. It has the big purple flowers. But the man said it was not a robust plant and he was having trouble getting it to a good size though at the time I saw it, it was about 6 feet tall as I recall.
