I have this great book by Colston Burrell PERINNIAL COMBINATIONS, a Rodale Press book and he ,C. Colston Burrell, uses Joe Pye Weed alot in his designs. Several DG'ers have written that it is invasive. Any of you have this in your garden?
Joe Pye Weed?
You may already have this reference to the Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board:
http://www.nwcb.wa.gov/weed_list/weed_list.htm
I don't see it on the list. (Atropurpureum Joe-Pye Weed.)
I have a wonderful version of eupatorium but lost the cultivar name. I think it has "mountain" in the variety name, not sure. It is most well-behaved after almost 8 years. 3-4 ft tall, maroon/green fine foliage and delicate sweet faint pink blooms in Fall. I regret that it hasn't spread MORE.
Well, that is promising.
That just lit up a memory for me. Last year, I saw this plant growing, could NOT figure out how it got there but I loved it. Hee hee. I do/did have the seeds of Eupatorium Purpureum, and I must have sowed, planted this thing in 2004. I remember that year was one of much seed sowing /planting and BAD RECORD KEEPING............lol. :-D
Well, now to find it this season, record it and hopefully (?) keep it.
