Steven - A complete newby to Plumies
Has anyone seen this Plumie?
Let me guess....it's gonna be your first isn't it.........
Hmm....probably not :|
Here's what it costs to ship to Canada
The minimum plant order is $300.00 US. There is a fee of $40 for the phytosanitary certificate and a processing/packing fee of $40.00 US which covers 4 plants, and $4.00 per plant for additional plants.
I would love to order from there though.
BTW, how are your Plumies doing? Any pics?
Steven
ouch......mine are doin good......growing like weeds.....I gotta get me a digital camera...
Yes, digital cameras are the best! I have an HP Photosmart with a super macro feature and I love it!
I'm heading to Canada Blooms this weekend, maybe I can get myself a Plumie there...
Steven
Yes, here's another thread about it: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/662952/ That purple-leaved one looks small enough to be a seedling. I have quite a few seedlings like that, and they tend to grow out of the purple leaves once they are bigger so it is a gamble. Variegated plumerias are becoming more and more popular, and the prices will come down in time. Thailand is at the forefront of propagating variegated plumerias. Here's Kukiat's picture of variegated ones at a nursery in Thailand.
Oh WOW! Those look really nice, it would be nice to go to Thailand and see all of them.
Its a shame that the purple leaved ones grow out of their color, it looks so nice.
Thanks for the link, I'm going to go visit that thread...
Steven :)
Steve, I think I might have misspoke and confused you. If that is a true purple-leaved adult that is grafted, then the color will stay that way. If that is a seedling, then it will most likely lose that intense purple color as the seedling matures. I only meant to say that the buyer needs to ask if it is a seedling or not before buying.
When pheitmeyer first posted that picture, he didn't tell us where it came from so we all suspected that it was a seedling, but now that we know it is being sold by Asiatica Nursery, it might be legitimate, but it bears some investigation. Since these plumerias fetch so much money, there are lots of sellers coming out of the woodwork all over the country, and there is plenty of fraud going on. It definitely pays to educate yourself before buying plumerias;-)
Thanks for clarifying that :) I know next to nothing about Plumies besides basic care, but I'm looking forward to learning more. When I eventually get one, it'll probably be a plain green type, I'd assume those ones are easier to care for? It really is terrible how there's always someone trying to scam someone else.
Steven
Yeah, Steven, I agree. Plumerias are a hot-ticket item, I guess, and I've been guilty of spending a fortune for them but no longer. I so enjoy ones that I have been given in trades or as gifts that I don't think I'll be buying any more of them. I am lucky to be able to trade with my best friend in Thailand. I think trade of plant material is difficult between Canada and the United States for some reason due to our customs or yours, but there are other members here from Canada, and you might be able to trade with them as well or find out where you can get some at a good price. I think Florida Colors might ship to Canada as well so you might check them out as their prices are very reasonable: http://www.floridacolors.com/ I think Lilypon is in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
