If only I had room..........

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I think this one is such a neat looking fruit. I saw it yet again at a local nursery calling my name.

Citrus medica var. sarcodactylus

That is so cool! Nice shot too. Can you add that to PF. The zones for that say 8a...but is it really? I have seen several images in catalogues and online but wondered if they were fabricated. I guess not.

Victoria BC, Canada(Zone 9a)

Very nice Kell...... It must be confused. I also thought I heard it call my name:)

I have to ask the same question are these really zone 8a? If they are I will be on the hunt for one. Do you know if the fruit is edible? Not that I want to suck on a lemon any time soon hehe...... but you know for the summer cocktails.

Very nice thanks for sharing Kell!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Yikes, that's unusual.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Awesome picture!!!

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

That looks like the Citron called 'Buddha's Hand'. it isn't edible raw, but can be candied, or, the peel used for flavoring, if this is indeed it.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

That is exactly what it is, common name is Buddha's Hand. The zest is used for lemon flavoring. There is no juicy pulp like other citrus. And the pith is not bitter like other citrus so you can use the whole fruit. It is great on fish too.

And Bea, they use it to flavor vodkas. Hmmmmmmmmmmm... do I hear Buddha's Drops instead of Lemon Drops? LOL

I have no idea about zone, though I would think they are like other citrus and do not like it too cold.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

No, you are all mistaken, it is calling MY name. It just doesn't know that it is too cold where I live for it to survive.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Elena. I bet with that great looking a fruit hanging on there it is long gone to a new home!

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Well, i hope it has a nice home since it can't live with me.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

they are becoming more available in my area. My local ext. office had a tree sale recently that featured this one. I didn't get one.

Victoria BC, Canada(Zone 9a)

Kell.......... yes that's the ticket Buddha's Drops

vossner...............Oh how could you resist?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Kell, what you really need is a PINK lemon for those drops.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

I got this plant last year. It is still small, but it's starting to grow more now.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

So are you inviting us all over to your house for Buddha's Drops soon, Donna ? LOL

Ardesia, actually a friend has bought me a variegated PINK lemon. It is so pretty. The fruit is even variegated.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Oh sure! Better start saving your pennies now....lol.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I have one of those varigated pink ones. Recently my grand daughter and I picked them and made pink lemonade. Like someone else here, GD loves anything PINK, even lemons, but she was unglued by the thorns on the tree. LOL

Springfield, MO(Zone 6a)

My Buddah's Hand is in full bloom in the greenhouse - along with Sweet Olive (Osmanthus fragrans) - absolutely intoxicating.

I also got a variegated pink-lemon (spectacular) and a Meyer lemon on a trip to Florida in January - yes at Home Depot for less than $10 each. The lemon is in bloom too with baby lemons forming too.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee Ardesia, I can't imagine anyone really like PINK! LOL

WOW Dave, your zone 6b is not holding you back. LOL. Do you know Crestedchik here? CC just loves citrus too. I think she is in zone 4 and her GH is filled too with citrus.

Springfield, MO(Zone 6a)

I'm in 6B but all the tropicals are nice and warm in the GH.

Yes - CC and I did a nice trade last year. I hope she's not still buried in snow.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Now I'm totally upset!!!! I went to look at my buddha hand and I can't find it!!! My square brain can't remember what happened!!! Did I give it away by accident or did I lose it! I can't believe I can't remember!! Boooooohoooohoooo...sniff, sniff.

The only good news is that I my mole eyes saw that I have a Portlandia Domingensis (Cubanola).

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Donna, you sound like me. I am forever losing a plant and then finding it in the weirdest place. I remember Cubanola, Trish had it. It is brug like.

Yes, I think CC is still buried in snow. LOL! How she deals with such cold!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Thats what the GH is for

Without it I'd freak out
It was 85 degrees in there today and I loved it
Sat there eating Kumquats off the tree

Love the buddas hand Kell
Its really strange looking but cool

And Dave, yes I'm still burried in snow
here's a picture of the GH a few weeks ago
I spent 2 days digging the snow away from the sides
because it was pushing the sides in

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL CC, you found us talking about you. All that snow. I had your zone off by1 but you still are in the deep freeze as far as I am concerned.

Didn't you get a variegated Buddha's Hand last year? Did it make it?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

yes,thank you
and its sooooo cute
but not growing very much

but I'm sure it will take off in time

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

CC how do you heat your greenhouse and how cold does it get for you? Also, please post pictures of what it looks like inside!
:) Donna

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I can't imagine anything nicer than being in a sunny warm greenhouse on a snowy day like that one pictured.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Esp being in CC's. She is so into tropicals. But I bet there is little room for a human as slight as she may be. LOL
