Best cultivars for a beginner, your chance to enable

Fair Haven, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi!
There are so many cultivars out there! What are a few 'good for a beginner' ones? My one-and-only is v. Peach, and now I'd like more please! I was reading the comment Kay made re. 'Cypress Gardens' dragging her beautiful blooms on the ground and realised what a huge help the personal experience you all have could be to myself and other newcomers. Plus you get to enable brand new baby Brugmaniacs, lol.
Thank you!!
Slavka
p.s. Went to a flower and garden show yesterday and got my friend started, she brought a small v. Peach home, lol.

I haven't been a brugmaniac long enough to know a lot about the different ones, but I do have a Frosty Pink and also an Isabella that don't seem to be bothered much by my lack of knowledge. I have seen comments that some are more particular, but couldn't really tell you where.

Good for you getting your friend started :-)

Those are great starters Sharon... I'd add Dr Suess or Charles Grimaldi to those.. but that's just a start.. There are a couple that are slow to bloom.. I haven't found any really fussy brugs that are hard to grow... yet... I think I make em that way by pampering them too much when they are a favorite..

Oh dang.. I said the "F" word.. I hope none of them heard it. LOL

The easiest brug I've ever had is Painted Lady. She grew fast and bloomed in all seasons, even in the worst of the heat when all the others were wimping out.

The easiest of the doubles for me has been Day Dreams. She also was a fast grower, which is great for a person like me that just hates to wait for blooms. It doesn't hurt that she's also very pretty.

I have so many that I love and could take up this whole forum running on about them, but if I had to pick just 2 favorites .... those would be it.

Yay, keep 'em coming folks! This is great. When you're new to this, it's hard to know what you're looking at from a pic on a website and a short blurb. Is there a favorite white? I saw some pic's of B. arborea that look swoony nice.
Happy dance time, my v. Peack just opened a her first bloom for me tonight. Heady fragrance too.

Okay Mary, you've enabled another purchase by me, LOL..... chasing down a piece of PL as we speak!! EBay has some good things but I'll probably go with Brenda D, she has the best stuff!!! All kidding aside, thanks for that input. I'm truly in the mood for EZ !! I've got bunches of babies coming up but it will be months before blooms so since you say she is an all around "good girl" I just have to have her. Oh, btw, I have a couple seed crosses with PL so I sure hope they pick up her character.
Thanks for the thread Starina. God bless, Margo

I also have to say I had a Tequila Sunrise bloomed non stop and so crazy I had to prop up the branches, and her fragrance is to die for! (She is coming back from the roots after the terrible freeze we had) Amber rose took the hot direct sun like a trooper, and for beauty.. the color is awesome, not intense, but really pretty. Creamsickle was an all around knock out, but slow to grow for me.. Rosemond is coming back from the freeze too.. she was a monster for growth and bloom size, She grew over 7' and blooms all the way up.. Whites are awesome cause they usually smell absolutely divine. So do the Yellow/Orange..

I love this.. it takes me back to bloom heaven. :)

I have my first bud of the year... it's on a cutting of "Puff" my nicknamed first ever double seedling.

Does anyone hear Ricky Ricardo in the background? "Looocy, this is gonna be 'spensive.." LOL. Just printed this out, and the search is on. Does anyone know of a source for B. arborea? Or have a recommendation for a nice white if that isn't a good choice for a beginner.
Hoping it starts to at least think of warming up soon,

Well, I ordered Painted Lady and Rosemond from Brenda yesterday. They will go out on Monday 3/12. I'm so excited! If I get a couple at a time a couple of weeks apart, hmmm, I'll have some gorgeous stuff blooming on the shaded patio this summer.
Joyce, how exciting to have your own double ready to bloom! My v. Peach has it's first bloom, so pretty and smells great. Even DH can smell it!

Starina, LOL. I can so hear Ricky Richardo :-)

Now I've got to go home and see what cuttings I have - and what I have to track down.

Brenda who? I would love to get some of the newer Brugs.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm guessing that would be Brenda Delph at www.SeedSprout.com

Good for you Slavka! You will be pleased with the size of the plants you get. Remember, they will be wilted from the trip. I always give mine a warm water bath.. it perks em up really fast, and washes off any stowaways that might have snuck in.

I have a long way before I get any blooms.. but I have "micro" buds and that gives me something to fuss over while I wait. LOL

Yes, Seedsprout, I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear.
