We rec'd a gift from my daughter's 5th grade teacher at the end of the school year. This year (3 yrs later) we have 2 new trees ....aka starts..... protruding from the ground about a foot distant from the original branch. This particular Salix matsudana x alba / willow tree is enormously successful. I hope you'll understand the reason for this post. Willow trees root like many weeds. This tree is renown for growth and propagation. We can have as many trees as we want at this point. Cut branches take root in soil provided they get adequate water. It is that easy. I have a 6 ft tall original.... with enough branches to create 100 new willow trees. Poplars do equally as well in this area in much the same manner. Trees for free .... pretty neat. Kelly
Austrees for free !
Would be interested in some of your free trees. Let me know if they are still available
grammie, You wouldn't want to drive 7 hours round trip for branch cuttings from a common willow tree. These trees are everywhere. Just find one in a neighbors yard and ask for a branch cutting. Stick it in the ground and water it ...... it will grow. Once you have a successful start ...... you'll have all the Austrees you'll ever want or need for free. Most varieties of willow trees will grow from cut branches planted in the ground and watered well. They need very little care ...... just routine watering. Once they set down roots .... you're home free.
Photographer.. I am a huge fan of the willow tree and I was not aware it grew so easily.. I would love to come take a look and possibly bring home a start. I am new to the site so I am not exactly sure how to contact you on here.
