Oh no, what have I done?

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I just ordered my very first Brug's... and I'm blaming it all on ~you~ .

Although I have never so much as seen nor smelled a brugmansia, I went online this morning and ordered two plants. They are probably considered a bit plain jane by many standards, but the two that 'spoke' to me, if you will, were 'Cypress Gardens' and 'Versicolor Peach.' I intend to grow them in large containers on a mostly sunny patio.

Whaddaya think about That? If I become an addict, I will blame that on you as well. So there. { :~)

Well, you are off and running - and it is only going to get worse!
Three years ago i didn't have to have a GH, and I was an almost contented old lady gardener; now I'm struggling to keep up with all that I have wrought.
Good luck!

Oh, great. You are the 2nd person to report that you got a GH after discovering brug's. My husband does not have a 'need to know' this, right?

Welcome Wrightie, welcome. LOL You have nothing to worry about for a month or two.. Just get some nose plugs NOW. When you get a bloom, make sure you have the nose plugs on!

Spoken from a hopeless addict who would go through months of cruel and unusual punishment for a whiff of brug fragrance.

V. Peach is so beautiful when she blooms. Although she is incredible, I don't go for her fragrance much... but I have an idea you will get hooked bad by Cypress Gardens! I've learned the whites and yellow/orange seem to have the best scent.. (besides Isabella & Frosty Pink)

You have been warned... I'm off your blame list now.... so there! LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

What fun for you, wrightie. I bet you love them too much!!

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

LOL wrightie no turning back now, so welcome to the addiction.

Sorry, but it's a story you'll hear all too often! I had to get a greenhouse too, and now I'm looking at a 2nd greenhouse with wistful eyes and a lustful heart. Heck, if I could I cover the whole back yard with greenhouses. LOL I'm only half joking about that! Good luck to you!

Mc Call Creek, MS

Heh, heh, heh....I just got my second greenhouse this year. My DH finally knuckled. They are both over-flowing with brugs. I keep telling myself I have to stop. I'm getting too old to take care of so many brugs, but I just keep getting more. They keep getting prettier and prettier.

Incidentally, Cypress Gardens is a wonderful choice. She blooms huge flushes about every three weeks here. The only problem I see with her is she tends to be short and thinks nothing of dragging her beautiful blooms on the ground.

I tall pot would work great for her.

If you must have one addiction, you picked the right one. And you will also find the company you keep on the brug forums is only the best. I have made many wonderful friends here.

Best of luck!

Thank you, Enablers. Thank you very much, indeed.

Gaylams: If ~only~ I had just one addiction! (horse, dog, & plant addictions galore with me!)

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Wrightie,
Welcome to the addition. My DH gave me a greenhouse for my citrus collection, but then I caught the disease. By the end of the first year, my greenhouse was full of Brugs.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Yeah, I started last June with just one plant. Then I had to buy two more, now I have about 30 in my "overwintering" room, which used to be my guest bedroom, and now my boyfriend keeps saying I need a greenhouse for next year, because it's only going to get worse because I'm now getting into growing crosses.

I think a Brugaholics Anonymous group needs to be formed -- oh wait, there's already one, and it's right here, but unfortunately everyone is an enabler. :) It's nothing but good.

YIKES. I'm going to freeze my debit card in a block of ice.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

I need help. I have three friends who just moved into new houses with HUGE sun rooms. Neither one of them is a plant lover and have NO plans for plants in the sun rooms.
I have such LUST for their sun rooms. LOL
I can just see the rooms full of Brugs and Hoyas and maybe a few orchid cactus. Is there hope for me??? I have dozens of Brugs stuffed into my little GH and more in every inch of my already full basement. LOL I still look at the catalogs every spring.
DH has already frozen my debit card in a block of ice, it didn't help, now I use grocery money, we need to lose weight anyway. LOL

LOL This is such a great thread! I'm cracking up! LOL bigtime @ Betty

Wrightie, next you will start schooling all your neighbors on basic brug care.. cause, they are next. LOL Expand your network! Beautify your neighborhood.. make room for MORE BRUGS! I have 3 enablers, I mean Neighbors down the street that are happy brug growers now.. I'm workin on another old lady (like me) that loves plants... she is my next victim.. Ah Hum.. I mean ummm she is next to get a beautiful brug or two... hee hee hee

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Say, can someone point me to a thread that shows a selection of pictures of how brug's have been used in the landscape? Most of the pictures that I've seen are of the brug' blooms up close. Well, I'm very interested in landscape design as a whole and would love to see how people have included them in their gardens and patios. If I don't get many responses here, I'll post a new thread.
