Have been reading about the honey bees disappearing. That is a very scary problem. Without the bees, no vegetables, no fruit, no nothing. I wonder if all the other bee species are disappearing also. Guess we will find out the hard way this summer. If you find a colony of bees, call a bee keeper to remove the bees. PLEASE don't kill them. You just may be committing suicide. LIZ
Maybe a lack of bees this yr.
There are bee keepers who go from place to place with their hives in order to pollinate many
of the crops we eat. They are finding empty hives and or dead bees.
For me this is a scary phenomenon.
I think I've heard that there is a mite that's killing honeybees, possibly also some sort of other pathogen... as far as I've heard, it's specific to honeybees, at least so far. Some folks are putting up little drilled block "houses" for carpenter bees in their gardens/orchards.
Including some favorite nectar plants in your garden and limiting the use of pesticides (if you have to spray, be sure to spray at times when bees are less active) will help all kinds of bees -- and that's a good thing.
