Spring 2007 Migration of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
Good idea posting this Linth! I used it last year and its very accurate.
linth, pell;,,
The hummers start showing up here on the 1st of May.... I wonder how many I'll end up with this year......Every year there seems to be more & more......... It's getting to be like Dodge City around here theres so many now..... Out of all the birds I get here, I enjoy the hummers the most....... May can't get here soon enough as far as I'm concerned.....
Thanks for the link linth....
....Dave
Dave,
Me too! I plant more flowers each year to attract and feed them along with the 4 feeders (like yours with the perches) that we change and add fresh sugar water and add perches around the garden for them to perch closer to the house. DH and I really love them! We get so excited when we see them in the Spring!
;-))
I will post my first sighting. It is normally the 1st week of April.
I would like to purchase a good Ruby- throated Hummingbird Book. Does anyone have a good one that they would recommend? I would love lots of quality pictures with informative text.
Thanks,
Teresa
Dave, I have that Honeysuckle. I also have 3 Trumpet Vines they love. Beautiful pic!
The scouts start passing through my area in April.

I forgot,,,,, I have a few trumpet vines to..... Also, I planted a few wisteria last year but they might take a few years to start blooming.....
That honeysuckle is called "GoldFlame"... Once it starts blooming, it blooms all summer long.... The hummers love it..... Heres something else they can't seem to get enough of.... (Butterfly Bush)
Those are great close-ups. Last year I had one little hummer that looked overweight and another that had a long thin neck.
They love my daylilies, salvia, bee balm, ect but they also come to the multiple feeders I put up. They are great entertainment.
That ones adorable linth;,,
The first couple weeks in May, we still have some cold nights here so I put the plants back inside at night if it looks like it's going to frost.... When I get home in the morning some of the hummers follow me out to the greenhouse...... I can't get the door open fast enough..... Those little jokers want in.....I laugh every morning watching those clowns making a beeline for the blooms..... Sometimes a few of them spend the night inside if I don't get them all chased out..... My little pain in the asses, but I love em.... lol
.
Great pics Dave! Keep 'em coming! I have about a dozen Butterfly Bushes around the yard (different colors), multiple Coral Bells, many Salvia (perennials & annuals), lots of Agastaches, many Columbines, some other flowers (can't think right now) and 4 feeders. Planted 3 different Red Hot Pokers last year and hope they all bloom this year. I try and different annuals (besides the Salvias) that attract the Hummers every year too. ;-))
Great closeup Linth!
Dave,
That sounds wonderful! That would make my day too! Hummers sure are sweet, charming, beautiful and adorable! Thanks for sharing!
Sac;,,
Awe, the poor thing......It probably saw a reflection and thought it could fly through it..... Good excuse to not clean the windows in the spring..... I never liked cleaning those darn things anyway........

Dave, I have a very large Wisteria; do they like that too?
The breeding range map is actually not accurate. RT Hummers breed in SW Newfoundland...I saw at least 3 pairs there last year so there are probably more.
