I just had to share this with you hummer lovers!
Today was rather windy here. My dd and I were standing in the kitchen when we heard something hit the sliding glass window. Being so windy outside, I thought it might have been a shingle off a roof or something but then I noticed my dogs sniffing around under my firewood holder. I investigated and found a hummer just laying there. I picked the poor thing up and brought him inside and wrapped him with a washcloth, to keep him warm, you know! Anyway, I stroked him and talked to him and he was still moving his feet and his little tongue kept doing that thing they do...well, then I got the bright idea to give him some sugar water. I took a spoon, all the while holding this injured hummer, and offered it to him. Apparently that revived him. He flew out of my hand flying madly all over my kitchen and dining area, back and forth, back and forth not leaving the ceiling area. Ok, so, now what, the sliding door is wide open but he's not flying anywhere but around the ceiling. Ok, what to do? DD has this great idea, we have a koi pond and have this huge net, "why don't you get the net and see if you can get him in it" brilliant dd says. So ok, I go get the net, mind you the 5 dogs that are here are going crazy with this thing flying all over the house. They wanted him bad! So did I, he kept leaving black spots all over my white ceiling. Ok, now hummer flying madly all over, my ceiling now polka dotted, I start trying to catch this little guy in the net. He dodges the net, of course. He then lands on one of my cabinets and I nab him. Nope, he gets out and starts flying all over in a circle from the dining area to the kitchen, still polka dotting my ceiling. I get him a couple of times, same thing. Then I catch him with the hard part of the net, and feathers come flying down. Oh my God, I'm going to kill this beauty. So, he's flying around in circles, I'm getting dizzy from swinging this net in circles in the air like a madman and I ACCIDENTALLY knock him against the wall. He flys over to my curio cabinet and sits on top of it. I climb on the couch and pick him up...he's dazed and I stroke him and tell him I'm sorry, "it's for your own good." I take him over to the front door, gently lift him in my hand in the air, let go, he flies to a tree by the front door and sits there for a good 5 minutes probably trying to figure out what the heck this crazy woman had just done to him. About 10 minutes later, I check on him, he's gone. I saved the little guy from a sure demise from the dogs.
All the while my dd and I are laughing our ***** off! Where's the video camera when you need it???!! America's funniest videos, I could have won $10,000.
I kid you not, this is a true story!
And the polka dotted ceiling...it was his tiny little feathers! Wonder if he'll be back tomorrow, I know him intimately!
A funny story!
ROFLMBO!!! That is really funny! I don't have hummers, but I had a similar incident happen with a butterfly. Startled everyone and was quite the challenge to catch! Glad to hear the little fella survived you trying to "save" him! I wonder if he'll risk coming back to your yard any time soon???? LOL! Thanks for sharing your story!
I can just picture you running through your house with that net. LOL Weegy, I know how frenzy hummers can be when they feel trapped. Especially one that's been stunned by a crash with a window. I'm glad you were around to rescue him. Bless his pounding little heart. He surely expended alot of energy trying to get out. I'm glad to hear you were able to give him a sip. I'm sure he'll visit your outside feeders but he may decide not to come in for free refreshments next time.
Halarious story weegy!! Thanks for sharing that!
Deb
I'm glad you enjoyed it, I'm still chuckling over here. I think the hummer is back this morning. I invited him in, but he said "no, thank you!" It's a good story for a good laugh that's for sure but to really appreciate it, I guess you had to be there! Ok, off to fill the feeders!
