We're planning a trip to a zoo this month.
Which one do you like the best? Dallas or Houston?
Thanks for any recommendations!!
Trish
off topic- Zoos?
Ooo.. When are you planning on going? My parents are going to be in town (from Ohio) in 2 weeks and I think we're going to the Houston zoo then. It would be fun to see you all there, too!! :-)
Sorry, I haven't seen either one, but the Fort Worth zoo is really nice, I have heard better than the one in Dallas.
I vote for the Fort Worth Zoo too. We like it better. The grounds are prettier.
Marylyn- have you been to the Houston one before? Houston is closer to us, and it would be nice to go there if the zoo is good.
We were thinking of possibly going next week.
From what I've read, Fort Worth does seem better than Dallas- thanks ladies :)
Now to figure out if it is 3 hours (each way) better than going to Houston......
Personally, the San Antonio Zoo is really nice, I think and this is from someone who is FROM Houston.

I like Houston's zoo. I haven't been to any of the other zoos, though, so I can't compare fairly. It is clean and there are a lot of interesting enclosures holding animals that don't look TOO bored out of their skulls. :-) They have a nice play area (my bunnies are only 3 and 5, so that's pretty important to us! LOL) and also a very nice petting zoo area. It is attached to a really nice park, too. Here is the Houston zoo's website: http://www.houstonzoo.org/
Next week will be a good week to go. Starting the week after, the area school districts are taking turns having spring break, so everything is going to be crowded.
My two cents worth: I have a lot of family still in Houston. My daughters and their friends think that the Houston zoo is worthy of going once a month with the children and spouses......it has been a long time since I have been, but they are currently going at the request of all the children.....
This would be my zoo ranking
1. Ft. Worth
2. San Antonio
3. Dallas
4. Houston
Another option would be to go to Glen Rose for fossil rim

You can drive around in your car. The animals come right up to your vehicle. One of my friends did have an antelope head butt and scratch her car a bit.
The great thing about San Antonio is that you can also go to Sea World. I think Sea World opens up pretty soon. Would have to check the dates.
Just checked, Sea World San Antonio opens tomorrow
The Houston Zoo gets better and better every year. I haven't been yet this year but it's always been a wonderful experience. And right around the corner is the Museum of Natural Science and the Cockrell Butterfly Exhibit. The Butterfly Exhibit alone makes for a wonderful day experience. I'm not sure if the museum still has the frog exhibit going on but if it does, it's a must see. I do know there is a visiting exhibit with ancient Roman artifacts. And right around the corner from there is Herman Park, with the Japanese Gardens and the Miller Outdoor Theatre. In the same area is the Children's Museum (oh, I wish mine was small again.....so much fun), the Museum of Fine Arts, the Medical Science museum and not very far, the Holocaust Museum. So many things to see and not enough time.
Can't go wrong at the Fort Worth Zoo, it is top rate for sure!!
BTW Wednesdays are half-price admission. Just a half mile up the road is the Botanic Gardens too.
