Banana trees

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't have any, but my cousin called to ask what to do about all the frozen leaves. Hers are about 20 feet tall in Houston. She wants to know if the leaves will come back down low as the trees will become nothing but big canopy without some lower leaves.
Thanks so much...

Now would be the time to whack them to about 6" from the ground and watch them grow. I'm assuming she's growing musa basjoo aka hardy banana. Leaves won't grow in the lower part of trunk, however, young, short pups will provide lower leaves. And my, do they pup!

mine are already peeking out and if our slightly above average temps in houston continue, hers will peek out almost immediately. I cut mine in early Jan because I can't stand the dead-looking leaves/trunk, but I've read that some people who have done that have not had their nanas come back. March 1 is totally, perfectly safe to whack them.
