Plese help with chiritas

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I am trying to add my chirita stardust to the plant files. I do not know how to fill in the blanks such as family, genus, species, or cultivar. I would really appreciate any help that you can give me. I am trying so hard to learn what each of these mean so I will know how to add my plants without bothering all of you all the time. Also, is there a plant database somewhere that tells the breakdown of each category of all plants? That would be quite helpful.

Thanks so much,
Jesse

Jesse: I sure hope someone comes along with some good information. I have the same problem. It's hard to know what family, genus, species or cultivar a lot of plants are in. There should be some Master Gardeners or other Experts who can answer these questions for all of us novices! Sure would be helpful to have a Plant Database to refer to at times!

hi, all gesneriads are in the family Gesneriaceae. The genus is Chirita.

The part after that is a little tricky for gesneriads because the rules for registration and naming are not all that consistent. Stardust is not showing up in the online registry but I'm fairly positive it is registered, only because it is a hybrid by John Boggan (you can put his name in the hybridizer field) and he is careful about such things.

It is safest, and most accurate, to put Stardust in the cultivar field, leaving the species field blank.

Yes, thanks from me too. I am slowly learning how to look things up. But it is people like you that help people like us. Thanks for doing so.
