Texas Statewide Roundup-April 28, 2007, College Station-FOOD

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok folks! Tomorrow we will be less than two months away. I decided to go ahead and get some things rolling so that we can all get excited about this roundup. This thread is for food, so please put down what you are planning to bring. Also, we will need silverware, napkins, plates, and bowls. I will bring a dessert and garbage bags. Drinks will be bring your own. We have had some terrific things before, so I am looking forward to trying everyone's goodies!

:) Thanks, Kim

Thanks for thinking of this. I can bring dried venison sausage and chicken salad. I think that's what I brought last year. As far as plates, forks, knives, etc. Suppose everybody contributes a dollar or so to a fund to buy that stuff at Cosco or something. I don't know how much it will be. Maybe we need to give $2?

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

I'll bring something to eat depending on how I'm feeling but in 2 months I should be in tip top condition and completely rebounded so watch out! It might be something good!

Ann

Nevada, TX(Zone 8a)

Will bring something for sure, i'll update with exactly what a little later.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yep, I'll bring something, too, but I'm not sure what yet. I'll be back when I know. LOL

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Same here. I'll bring food and decide what as the list develops and I see what is needed.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Is this the only list we have for food for the Apr. 28 RU at CS? Looks like we're gonna be a hungry bunch. I'm feeling so much better each day that I feel like eating, for a change. Also, I have been asked if beer is allowed at the pavillion. Is it? I didn't know the answer. I feel some hearty food coming up for me to bring.

Ann

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Ann, I am sure as we get closer to the date we will all come up with something to bring,. I have never been to a swap where there wasn't a lot of food left over, with everyone bringing something there is usually a lot.
I don't know about the beer, I haven't been to one where it was served, you might ask Dave.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

It probably depends on the policies at the park mostly. For the beer that is. As far as food, most people bring more food than they themselves will eat. What kind of food they bring is another issue. I hope we don't all bring the same thing. But then, we should know ahead of time what most people are bringing.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

I'll probably try to bring some kind of salad.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

The BEER question: In state parks it is not permissible to openly drink beer. Don't know about national parks. And don't know if where we hold the RU is included in any of the above. The question remains unanswered. Maybe Kim will know but know that she is quite busy.

Ann

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

There was beer at the spring RU there--no one said a thing.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Hello all! Sorry I didn't get on here sooner. This park is a city park maintained by College Station. Park rules do allow consumption of alcohol on the premises by those 21 and older.

Thanks, Kim

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Kim, for the input. Got to keep the troops happy.

.... too much going back and forth to the car will be noted. ... falling asleep in the car will not count. lol

Hi all I bought a pkg of 130 Hefty 8" plates today. Instead of something to eat I will see about the silverware also. Don't you all think 100 forks and spoons and knives will be enough or too much? As I eat on paper plates all the time and use plastic silverware sometimes I can always bring the extra home. A friend of mine says Sam's has the plastic silverware (I think she said 100 of each Knife, fork and spoon for 12.00. She said they were heavy duty and not the flimsy plastic. I will see if my friend will take me as I don't have a membership.

Let me know if you think 100 is enough.

Only 20 days left hope this thread takes off. Can't wait to see what we will have. Last night I made sweet potatoes to take to my DDIL's parents tomorrow. My son told them I made the best. Mine are not as good as her Dad's but I would not let him down sure hope they are good. I forgot how I make them. This is the first thing I have cooked since losing Dennis. See why I am so anxious for homemade food?

DS is always talking about me. His DGFIL sent me a picture of Jesus with a beautiful ,not peom, but how much Jesus loves me. It is beautiful and one of his friends has ordered me a gift he told me. He must really talk great about me for them to send me things. Makes me feel like you all make me feel. Super Special.

OK this takes care of plates and silverware.

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

Thank you so much Sandy.....I think 100 will be more than enough. Happy Easter to you....you are special!

I will reserve this space for whatever I can bring. Will probably be some sort of finger foods. Am playing around w/some ideas.

Ann

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

No problem. I am excited to be stating the night with CJ on fri the 27th and coming to the round-up to see all my loved ones and return to CJ's and staying Sat. night. If it wasn't for my little Princess Doxie I may never leave.

I am looking forward to coming andseeing all of you. I am sure I will probably have some emotional min. As everytime I visit something me and my Love have been, and as welcome and wonderful as you all made him feel, I get emotional. I miss him and nothing will change that, but it will be great to be with loved ones who shared in loving and caring for him. It was such an awesome time. It was something he never considered doing till the DG round-up. And he was so happy he did. I thank all of you for being my family. I love you all so much. Can't wait to see each one of you.

Love and Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

Just bumping this back up!

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Robert cooks a very good beef brisket, so we'll bring that and some barbecue sauce.

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

I will make a pot of pinto beans with sausage and bring a carrot cake.
Trishann

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

How about an unusual cabbage salad? If I use the whole head of cabbage, it makes enough for an army! I just learned about it a couple of yrs ago & make it every chance I can, so I can get some of it.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

O.K. Guys, I thought I would do a recap about the food so we have an idea of what we are bringing and don't repeat things.

Josephine,

I said I would bring silverware for 100 and 130 Hefty plates. I did pick up 250 napkins tonight. But I did not say cups. Sorry. I am going to leave those to someone else.

Thanks,
Sandy ^8^

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I can bring some cups since some people will need those, but I am thinking that most people will have pop or water as drinks and won't need a cup. I can bring ice as well, and trash bags, and a dessert. Thanks Josephine for the recap, that helps out a lot!

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Should I bring a couple loaves of bread? And maybe a potato salad??

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Trishann, I am already down for bread, but the potato salad would be great.
Please confirm so I can out you on the list.
Josephine.

Freeport, TX

My husband and I are intending to attend the RU.. How does a German Chocolate Cake sound?

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Josephine, thanks for letting me know about the bread.... I'll just add the potato salad to my list....

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi Karlae,
German Chocolate Cake sounds wonderful!!! One of my favorites!!!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello Everybody, I have updated the food list to reflect some changes.
Josephine.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'll bring a fruit salad and some chips 'n salsa. Also I'm bringing food for my little bunnies, so if anyone wants some pb&js, let me know and I'll bring extra! :-)

Nevada, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll bring some vegies with dip and some homemade cookies.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

I'll bring some corn dip and fritos, and a cherry/pineapple dump cake.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hmm.. Maybe I should bring a main dish instead of the fruit salad. We're going to drive up tomorrow morning instead of last night, so it wouldn't be as difficult for us as for some of you that are doing the motel thing tonight. Should I bring chicken enchiladas, some kind of soup in a crock pot, or chicken salad? Any opinions? :-)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I think I will bring cubed cheese and crackers instead of cake, we already have a lot of sweets.
