Blue Fescue - drought tolerant?

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I moved my cenizo to a spot I hoped that gave more drainage in my garden since it was not liking my wet clay area I originally planted it in.

I was hoping to set it off in a rocky area with some blue fescue around it. Since it's at the edge of the watering region (on purpose), would the blue fescue be equally at home?

Here's a link on it. Also my friend told me it doesn't do well in full Texas sun even if watered.

I always thought festuca glauca was one of the most drought tolerant grasses. I have mine a foot away from the A/C exhaust - certainly the equivilant to zone 8 I would think.

Linda, the good news is it's is full sun only in the morning and early evening, it's dappled tree shade the rest of the day. Mostly I'll be watching myself not to overwater the cenizo, so anything right next to it has to be agreeable with this.

rena, what's with the yuck? Don't like rocks, cenizo or ornamental grass or what?

al, I hope your link is right - it lists the fescue under good for hot & dry. Yay!

LarissaH,

I have 2 festuca glauca that I grew from seed. They are more than an year old now, and are in 1 gallon clay pots on the west side of my house. They get a lot of TX sun from morning to late afternoon and are doing great. The one that gets the most sun is more blue and nicer than the other. I would definetly consider them drought tolerant and suited for the TX heat, in fact I am planning to plant more seed this year.
