I'll take a stab...
The first one appears to be a Neoregelia, probably a hybrid, but beyond that I can't say. Very nice color!
The second one looks like a very colorful Tillandsia brachycaulos. (I can't tell but I'm assuming there are no spines on the leaves.) It looks like there is a single flower showing. The brachycaulos flowers, like most Tillandsias, are purple. How large is it?
Love that southern sun and humidity!
Dave.

thanks dave. the 2nd one does have spiny edges on the leaves.

WOW Voss, I sure love that first one. I am really liking Neoregelias these days. I have seen some incredible ones on eBay from Australia. I wish I could find them here. I love the real colorful hybrids. Where did you find yours?

Howdy Kell. A very lovely friend who had to thin out his collection so he can tend to his sick wife. Our own Guardan in FL is the one that got me hooked.

Well we both need more of them, I can just tell. LOL

Well, since plant #2 has spines, it can't be a Tillandsia. The single flower (?) looked tubular and purpleish to me which suggested Tillandsia.
My next "guess" would be one of the varieties of Aechmea recurvata. I'd suggest you go to the Photo Index at http://fcbs.org/ and look at the pictures for them. When grown under intense light, recurvata can get quite colorful.
Dave.
