New caladiums from Thailand

Piedmont, MO(Zone 6a)

Hi all,
I have been eyeing the new caladiums from Asia, offered from Asiatica Nursery, Brent and Becky's Bulbs, and a few other vendors. They are still pricey for now, so I have not ordered any. But the colors are great! They are supposed to have thicker, more glossy leaves than regular caladiums, but are smaller in size.

I was just wondering if anyone out there has tried them yet and would leave some feedback?
Hopefully, they will become popular and the price will get down to a comparable level to other caladiums in the future!

You'll find a better deal at Buried Treasures;

Thanks for the link, Bill.
Now I want everything they offer, too!
I might have to just break down and order some.

You will not be sorry if you do. Chris and Gretchen are great people!!

I wish they offered the chartreuse and purple caladiums. They are the ones I am most interested in acquiring, since those (to me anyway) are new colors for caladiums. Pink, red, white...I have those.
They are offering a great deal on 2 of them (5th anniversary special, 3 for $5).

Caladiums4Less has some glossy thicker Caladiums like Florida Cardinal (red) and some white, I bought the Florida Cardinals and will be planing this weekend.

Seems like I ordered Florida Cardinal a few years ago but received something else. For now, I have plenty of pink and red caladiums, but I will keep your suggestion in mind if I need more.
I've got so many other plants coming in this year, I will be lucky to keep them all watered until planted!

pheitmeyer,

The FL cardinal doesn't have any white in it.

Toxi,

I do have Marie Moir which is a rare variety and a beautiful plant!!!

C4Less, what I meant and didn't communicate well was that you have White thicker glossy Caladiums as well as Red. Sorry for the confusion.

I have to admit, as much as I love caladiums, and as MANY as I have, I have not been overly happy with the exotic ones. Maybe 3-4 leaves on each, and that's it. I'm much happier with the beautiful standards (even if some of them are newer stabdards over the last 5 years)

Thanks for the feedback, MerryMary. I appreciate your honesty. If they don't do well in Florida, and you grow MANY caladiums, they would probably be a big disappointment here in Missouri.
I have a lot of Aaron, Rosebud, etc starting to leaf out (in the greenhouse), so those good ole white, red, and pink shades will have to do for now!

The MarieMoir that Bill mentions above, are beautiful, as are gingerland and Miss Muffet. If you want intense colors, Florida Sweetheart, Kathleen, Fannie Munson, and Carolyn Whorton are easy to grow and pack a punch. Many or the traditional colors, such as Florida Cardinal, Postman Joiner, Red Flash, etc, have been around for so long because they are tried and true troupers.
