Whoo Hoo .... American Painted Lady!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I saw this fast butterfly on my purple vining Lantana yesterday. I tried to snap a better photo, but it was just not going to oblige me! I looked at the wing pattern and it does indeed appear to be a PL! Yay!

I am always excited to see new butterflies in my yard. I also saw a "wild" Monarch in the yard yesterday too. I always know the wild ones because they won't let me get near them. I think it might have been a female Monarch! So perhaps she'll start laying eggs for me. My Milkweed is getting lots of leaves now. Not very tall yet, but getting a bit more bushy!

Congrats!!! Seeing butterflies after all the rotten weather is always a joy!!!

I was out at the ranch this weekend and I drove slowly down the dirt road to the bunk house so I could check the sunflowers along the way. I'd stop the truck when I'd see butterflies being chased away from the blooms - it turns out there were Painted Ladies on various plants and they were being territorial!
